It's not about where we are, but where we are going.

2021 was a good year but 2022 is going to be better!

Irrespective of what happens with the world and the powers which govern it, 2021 was a headline year for crypto and in particularly Hive and it's budding ecosystem of which, we (@liketu) are proud to be a part of moving forward.

More than ever, we find ourselves in an environment where ground up communities (like we have at Hive) must find ways to deliver value both to the content creators, but also to the content consumers. In the past year, we have seen a revolution of sorts with respect to "web3" and it pains me to see the earliest and possibly best implementation of it (Hive) by and large overlooked, least not because figures in our community have been pioneers on building "web3" for longer than the buzzword has been popular. Dan at 3spk but to name one of many.

People are willing to pay a lot of money if they LIKE the content

One thing I think which has been overlooked and perhaps to our detriment, is the willingness for content consumers to pay directly for content they wish to consume. While value discovery through voting is one method of rewarding creators, I believe that there is a large untapped economy of people who are willing to pay for premium content. This is something we intend to expand upon and build more tools for in the coming year.

Tiktok recently overtook Google as the number one visited "site" in the world and has over 1 Billion active users. Not being an avid user of tiktok myself, I am reminded that 1 Billion people did not flock to tiktok because of the opportunities to make money. Yes, some (a very small percentage of people) did, but most importantly, it is fun and brings a lot of value both to the people creating content, but also people consuming it. Let's not forget that.

Over the coming year, making the whole social experience more fun is our number one priority. Instead of focusing on what something is worth it is better to focus on what it is. We hope Liketu is a corner of HIVE where you can truly have fun and not be too bothered about money and financial incentives. Liketu is (hopefully) fun and will become more fun with the features we'll be adding this year.

Lastly..a challenge to win some more Hive Punks!

As you know, Liketu uses synthetic "likes" to opt out of financialising your expression of opinions on content whilst allowing you to make the smallest atomic engagement. We have implemented Hive Punks as something you can "Like" with to make rubber stamping a post unique. We hope as more people come onboard, this will become more popular. In-fact, part of my goal in giving away all these punks is to foster more adoption of them, but also let users "use" them, show them off as they navigate our site.

Challenge

Make a post about your achievements in 2021 and resolutions for 2022.

  • What defined your year in 2021 (bored of Pandemic so lets not mention that)?
  • What are your goals in life for 2022?
  • What are your goals in crypto?
  • What would you like to see happen (generally speaking) in 2022?

Best posts will get a rubber stamp of approval (Punk Like) from me, a sizeable upvote, and a Punk for your troubles.

Make sure to make the post on liketu.com

Punks as likes are awesome, I love it! I also want to see how ppl use this premium content tool, first time see this on hive

They are aren't they? We'll be adding more features to let people browse their NFT collections, sort them, display them, show them off etc.

I subscribe to many creators across many platforms and pay for premium content, in the coming year as we fix all the bugs, complete the mobile experience and ultimately come out of beta, we'll also spend significantly on attracting premium creators from other corners of the web looking to build their crypto presence.

Even on the simplest terms, we offer some very competitive and compelling reasons to be a creator on liketu.

  1. We have the lowest commissions in the industry. 20-30% is the norm, but we take 10%.
  2. Instant remittance and clearing of funds. Other Freemium platforms pay their creators weekly or at the end of the month. The platform holds their funds custody until then. Sometimes, for whatever reason, they don't even release the money and the creator is left out of pocket. Subscription payments on Liketu are split payments at point of transaction. This means creators get paid their 90% directly and instantly.
  3. Other platforms such as Patreon, fansly, onlyfans rely on building a social presence OFF site and then funnelling their audience to their paywalled content. This means the native site offers no opportunity for content discovery, or for content consumers to easily find other content they might like to pay for. Liketu combines the pitch, the funnel, the payment and delivery all in one place.

Ye you should post about liketu plans or little sneak peaks 😂 I think many ppl would love to hear about it

Oh, I'm sure. We're focused on fixing bugs and getting the mobile experience both web and native done and then introducing significant feature updates after that.

Will make some meaningful updates on liketu account when there are any. It's not about quantity but quality !

Just like kicky said we all are waiting for more info about these premium tools!

i just made an entry to this challange. i hope its worth the read. Here is the link below: https://liketu.com/@lebey1/my-achievements-in-2021-and-my-resolutions-for-2022-leiketu-punk-challenge

Hi @elmerlin

I only noticed yesterday that you could become a verified member on Liketu and unlock new monetization features, so I went through the process and when I woke up the next day and checked what had changed, I was surprised and pleased to see that you can set up subscription tiered paywalls, a little like how things run on Patreon.

I find this quite encouraging because I am a writer by trade, outside of hive, and I have often thought that fiction in particular can be very undervalued on hive. To the extent where I actually chose to stop putting my fiction on here. But with this feature, the potential is there to ask a bit more for high-quality work.

e.g. I once wrote a 4798-word short story on hive that took 6 hours to write, then as I studied creative writing at University, I spent another 4-5 hours editing, re-writing parts, tightening up sentence structure and correcting any plot holes. And then after what amounted to easily between 10-12 hours, a piece of fiction that I am proud of and think might have been accepted to a mainstream fiction journal makes $1.71 which actually means approx. $0.85 after curators take their 50%. Pretty much the equivalent of being paid $0.08/hour... 😂 which I can only describe as insane. No one would work for that, especially not someone like myself who lives in a country (the UK) with a very high cost of living. The story I'm talking about is linked below, it is a short story written in the magic realism genre, set in Japan.

https://peakd.com/celfchallenge/@raj808/the-albatross-short-story

p.s. that story is from years ago so I'm not trying to shill it for votes lol I just thought I'd drop it in case you like to read fiction.

I know Liketu is more of a photographic blogging type hive-based platform, and that is actually what I’ve been using it for and thoroughly enjoying improving my photography skills and keeping in practice with what I've learned over the years around photo editing using GIMP to clean up images and make digital collage art.

But the tier access system you've implemented on Liketu actually gives me hope that at some point in the future if the novel I’m working on gets picked up, I will at least be able to maybe start writing a few new short stories (to put on hive) using Liketu but setting a paywall so that my fiction isn’t so undervalued.

Anyway, keep up the great work and development of Liketu 👍
