The end of the snowy season…or not?

By April you would say that it is entirely time for spring leaving the winter behind and all said and done with it. Well, at least that's what I feel like in general, by the time it is April I am so fed up with the gray European weather that I am longing for the sun like a good one.


But I saw this little header earlier in the week that the ski region of Val Thorens was keeping their ski area open this year until the 6th of May, which feels extremely long. On the other hand, a couple of years back I also decided to go skiing exactly there in the last week of April which was like the biggest mental mind f&ck there is. Driving to green valleys towards there, having a snack in the sun in your T shirt, and the more you are driving up the mountain, the more snowy your situation gets.


Earlier in the week a friend of mine texted from the Alps that he was stuck in a town because of avalanches and high winds and there was no option to get out of the town by car. I don’t call those kinds of situations end-of-season situations, I call that mid-winter problems. But I guess they are still there in the beginning of April.


Here in the Netherlands the winter just really sucked. It was not cold enough but also really really moisty and there were not a lot of cold and blue skies kind of days. Luckily when there was one I went outside to make a run for it. This was literally the only snowy afternoon with sunshine that we had seen all winter. Those are the days when you feel the contrast is right.Those are the days when you want to walk outside. Those are the days how you want winter to feel.


And those are the days that I hope that they are also finished for this winter, bring on the bikini days with outdoor chillings. I need my flipflops!
