Last year I seized the opportunity to go on a one week trip to Vienna, Prague, Budapest, and Bratislava, thanks to a discounted vacation campaign. Our journey began in Budapest, the cultural hub of Hungary. We visited the magnificent Aquincum Museum. This museum showcases captivating mosaics and stone carvings that exude the essence of the city's historical streets.
Aquincum Museum is an amazing place. It turned out to be much larger than we expected and not only does it feature openair Roman ruins but also two enclosed museum areas. We ended up spending twice as much time here as we initially planned, and if we had more time, we could have easily doubled that. The museum is incredibly interesting, with signs and explanations everywhere, allowing you to understand your location and how it was during the Roman era. The vastness of the ruins is astonishing, you don't realize how extensive it is until you look at it from the roadside. The interior exhibitions were also meticulously curated with great attention to detail. If you have an interest in history, then this place is an absolute must visit!
There is an immense amount of fascinating information and tons of ruins to see. It's an extremely intriguing and wonderful opportunity to wander through the partially excavated streets of a Roman village. One notable highlight is the reconstructed Mithras Temple, which stands in place of the original. Be mindful of the irregular steps at the entrance. There are also two informative films here, so be sure to move quickly to secure a spot in the audience seating. I also recommend visiting the nearby reconstructed Painter's House.
