✨This is the first time I am about to enjoy a carnival of this style in Venezuela. The most popular carnival festivities are held in the east of the country, specifically in the town of El Callao. They are the cultural heritage of humanity.
So the towns and cities in the eastern part of the country also enjoy these festivities to the fullest. I decided to go to Ciudad Bolivar and enjoy the carnivals of Ciudad Orinoco.
The festivities were filled with many fancy costumes, madams that symbolize the original ladies of the Antilles, and Antillean matrons that are considered authentic pillars of Callao's identity. I also had the opportunity to take some pictures with this gentleman, who is a cultural icon of the locality for his original and representative songs.
This tradition is respected and encouraged, especially for the cultural participation it implies. So you can join in to dance, play an instrument, or just have fun. So if you are in Venezuela for Carnival, keep in mind that you can have fun. 🎉
- You can bathe with the water cisterns that are drenching people while you dance. It's like a water party.
- You can be painted black by the sweet mixture they make with charcoal and dulce de panela (sugar cane juice in solid form).
You can dance to the rhythm of calypso, which is the typical music of this region, as well as soca. - It is a very diverse set of activities that I hope to capture in audiovisual form at a later opportunity.

Es la primera vez que me dispongo a disfrutar un carnaval de este estilo en Venezuela. Las fiestas de carnaval más populares se realizan en el oriente del país, específicamente en el pueblo de El Callao. De hecho, son patrimonio cultural de la humanidad.
Así que los pueblos y ciudades de la zona oriente del país también disfrutan al máximo estas festividades. Yo decidí irme a Ciudad Bolívar y disfrutar los carnavales de Ciudad Orinoco. 🎉
Las festividades estuvieron repletas de muchos disfraces de fantasía, madamas que simbolizan a las señoras originarias de las Antillas, matronas antillanas que se consideran auténticos pilares de la identidad callaoense. También tuve la oportunidad de tomarme algunas fotografías con este señor, que es un ícono cultural de la localidad por sus canciones originales y representativas.
Esta tradición se respeta y se fomenta, sobre todo por la participación cultural que implica. De tal forma que te puedes unir a bailar, a tocar algún instrumento o simplemente a divertirte. Así que si estás en Venezuela por Carnaval, ten presente que te puedes divertir. ✨
- Puedes bañarte con las cisternas de agua que van mojando a las personas mientras bailas.
- Puedes ser pintado de color negro por la mezcla dulce que realizan con carbón y dulce de panela (el jugo de caña de azúcar en forma sólida).
- Puedes bailar al ritmo del calipso, que es la música típica de esta región, al igual que la soca.
- Es un conjunto de actividades muy diversas que espero captar de forma audiovisual en una siguiente oportunidad.
