The history of Stein am Rhein has been marked from the very beginning by its location on the river. Already in the the 5th century BC, the area on the left bank of the Rhine was populated with farmers and fishermen. Here in photo the monastery hospital founded around the 13th century.
In the course of changing political conditions, the hospital translates citizen asylum was transferred to the city in 1476 and was greatly expanded as a consequence. In short succession, three houses were added to the old hospital.
