APPRECIATION
It was my birthday not too long ago at the start of the month. I turned 30 years old, It feels like a huge milestone in my life, saying goodbye to your twenties and all the memories and experiences that came with it!
I had a wonderful day celebrating which was made even more special thanks to this gift I received. It is a 1995 red wine, aged 30 years just like myself.
It is a tremendous gift! I have always wanted to try a vintage wine, to experience the flavours and tastes & remain in awe at the age of said beverage.
1995 La Clarière Laithwaite Bordeaux
The wine is very visually appealing to me sitting in its beautiful case, accompanied by various wine accessories which include a corkscrew, wine pourer, drip stopper & wine thermometer.
You can't be drinking your wine at un-optimal temperatures!
I am not an expert at wines by any means, I just enjoy drinking them. But going forward I would like to gain some knowledge of understanding wine characteristics, wine varieties, and my own palate.
The 1995 La Clarière Laithwaite Bordeaux is a red wine with a deep purple-ruby color, a rich nose, and a creamy black fruit and raspberry flavor. Some say it's a good, solid wine with a nice balance
Côtes de Castillon
I've been contemplating to open the wine or not, enjoy it as it was a gift and experience it. But at the same time, it is a special gift to me now. I like the fact it was bottled in my birth year and has aged approximately the same amount of time I have grown.
I feel somewhat connected to this little bottle now 😅 I would like to age it further, perhaps one day down the line finally opening it to experience the flavours and what I missed out on!
Côtes de Castillon is a red wine region in the Bordeaux wine region of France. The name comes from the town of Castillon-la-Bataille, where a decisive battle was fought in 1453 that ended English rule.
I have been researching into Vintaged Wines recently as my interest was sparked with this wonderful gift, I honestly presumed aged wine would be a hot commodity, as in the price would skyrocket past certain years and vintages.
Of course, brands play an effect on consumerism as-well as the hype behind a product, the exclusivity, the price. Many, many different factors in all regions of products. But I was still shocked to see how low some of these vintage bottles of wine could be.
I definitely feel it is worth some-what starting my own vintage wine collection with the prices I have seen for specific bottles, brands and types of alcohol. I enjoy the collector aspect of it all and to perhaps see some of your purchases mature in value over time.
I can only presume how much bottles of wine found at the bottom of the ocean, aged hundreds of year fetch at auction. To hold a bottle of that caliber and history behind it would be quite remarkable, I feel it has always fascinated me.
Wine has been found and drank all throughout history, getting to taste the Egyptian 5,000 year old wine preserved perfectly in jars found in the tomb of Queen Meret-Neith, tasting wine from past shipwrecks or historical times, it would all be quite the experiences and mind blowing.
To think something can survive that long without spoiling or turning, only increasing in flavour is quite tremendous.
It is most definitely something I will think about, as prices for these seem incredibly reasonable. £79.97 for a 38 year old wine.. it seems far too good to be true!
I would feel a slight amount of guilt drinking the beverage to know it will forever be gone once consumed, but that is also the fun and experiences of it all I guess! Plus you would have a beautiful bottle to keep for the historical value. (to yourself of course 😂)
Perhaps I can create myself an HBD fund to use for the purchasing of vintage beverages with my earnings and get a little collection going!
Greetings @dubble ,
Hope you are well.
What an excellent post and write up with regard to your gift and interest...Well done!
A thought ...if giving a wine as a gift...you could give an anniversary date of any kind....five year old wine, etc. What do you think?
Kind Regards to you and the Kitties!
Bleujay
I'm doing great thank you @bleujay 😁! I hope you are well also!
Thank you so much for the kind words as always! I love that idea of an anniversary gift wow I never thought about that but it is wonderful (in my opinion!) If both parties choose to cherish it, and keep it as a relationship memento/milestone I think that would be very lovely and romantic! 😄
I will use this idea one day hahaha thank you!
Best regards to you my friend! Take care and have a fantastic day :)
