Cunda Plaza and the magnificent in past time

This building is a grandeur in the past, in the era of the 199O Cunda Plaza is the only plaza that stands in my city, Lhokseumawe. The past has made my city a cosmopolitan area. PT Arun's natural oil and petroleum refineries have made my city one of the world's Petrodollars.

We have to admit it, even though natural gas is sucked from Aceh's land, only 1% for us as natural gas owners to have it, the rest is owned by the state. Suharto as the Indonesian president who served for 32 years colonized us, the Orde Baru regime was so imprinted in the thoughts and stories of our parents.

Even so, a handful of PT Arun employees at least have revived our city in the past, Lhokseumawe city became an icon of cheap shopping centers at that time, there was a plaza that provided various needs of the local community. The petrodollar economy seems real, although at that time we began to hear rumors that Gas Aceh would run out in 2002, I knew there was a mass layoff of employees that year. This is because the contract period of PT Arun has expired as one of the oil and natural gas export refineries to Japan.

Cunda plaza is a silent witness of how the city is noisy at night, located at the entrance to the city, making the iconic Cunda plaza that always looks once we enter the city of Lhokseumawe. Community economics, lifestyle, cosmopolite, are all tangible forms of the city Lhokseumawe was one of the biggest economic centers in Aceh in the past.

Now we can only tell these things to our children, there is no more Cunda plaza here, we can only show the old pink building as one of the grandest historical monuments of shopping centers in the past.

Conflict between the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) and the Republic of Indonesia broke out in 1998, the fall of Suharto as Indonesia's president triggered a resurgence of anger in the past. Previously, the status of the Military Operational Area [DOM 1989-1998] had been enacted, many victims of prolonged conflict torture. Since the Orde Baru stepped down, the people of Aceh have been busy with demanding independence from Indonesia.

Cunda plaza became one of the shopping centers looted during the riots that broke out in Lhokseumawe in 1999, since then, the only famous plaza in Aceh was closed. Until now the old building still stands firmly as one of the witnesses of history and is an icon of magnificent in the past of the city of Lhokseumawe.

Bangunan ini adalah sebuah kemegahan di masa lampau, di era tahun 199O-an Cunda Plaza adalah satu-satunya plaza yang berdiri di kota saya, Lhokseumawe. Masa lalu telah menjadikan kota saya ini sebagai salah satu kawasan cosmopolitan. Kilang gasa alam dan minyak bumi milik PT Arun telah menjadikan kota saya salah satu dari Petro dollar dunia.

Kami harus mengakuinya, meski Gas bumi disedot dari perut Aceh, hanya 1 % kami selaku pemilik gas alam menikmatinya, selebihnya merupakan milik Negara. Soeharto selaku presiden RI yang menjabat selama 32 Tahun menjajah kami, rezim Orde Baru begitu terbekas dalam pikiran dan cerita-cerita orang tua kami.

Pun begitu, segelintir karyawan PT Arun setidaknya telah menghidupkan kota kami di masa lampau, kota Lhokseumawe menjadi ikon pusat perbelanjaan murah di masa itu, disana ada plaza yang menyediakan berbagai kebutuhan masyarakat setempat. Ekonomi petro dollar tampak nyata, meski waktu itu kami mulai mendengar desas- desus Gas Aceh akan habis pada tahun 2OO2, saya ketahui ada pemberhentian secara massal karyawan di tahun tersebut. Hal ini dikarenakan telah habisnya masa kontrak PT Arun sebagai salah satu kilang eksport minyak dan Gas Alam ke Jepang.

Cunda plaza adalah saksi bisu bagaimana keriuhan kota di malam hari, terletak di jalan masuk kota, jadikan cunda plaza ikon yang selalu tampak begitu kita memasuki kota Lhoseumawe. Ekonomi masyarakat, gaya hidup, kosmopolite, semua merupakan bentuk nyata kota Lhokseumawe adalah salah satu pusat ekonomi terbesar di Aceh di masa lampau.

Kini kami hanya bisa menceritakan hal-hal itu kepada anak-anak kami, tidak ada lagi Cunda plaza disini, kami hanya bisa menunjukkan bangunan tua berwarna merah muda itu sebagai salah satu monumen sejarah pusat perbelanjaan termegah di masa lalu.

Konflik antara Gerakan Aceh Merdeka [GAM] dan RI pecah di tahun 1998, lengsernya Soeharto sebagai presiden Indonesia memicu terjadinya kebangkitan amarah di masa lampau. Sebelumnya Aceh telah diberlakukan status Daerah Operasi Militer [DOM 1989-1998], banyak korban penyiksaan konflik yang berkepanjangan. Semenjak orde baru lengser, masyarakat Aceh beramai ramai menuntut Merdeka dari Indonesia.

Cunda plaza menjadi salah satu pusat perbelanjaan yang dijarah masa kerusuhan yang pecah di Lhokseumawe pada tahun 1999, semenjak saat itu satu-satunya plaza yang terkenal di Aceh dulu itu ditutup. Hingga kini bangunan tua itu masih berdiri kokoh sebagai salah satu saksi sejarah dan merupakan ikon kemegahan kota Lhokseumawe.
