RE: A love message to my native island LA PALMA currently undergoing a volcanic eruption. All my love to you beautiful BENAHOARE

in GEMS3 years ago

I pray that all the people's live will be preserved, that the property damage will be minimal, and that the lava flows will make that beautiful island BIGGER!

Sort:

Evacuation started some hours before eruption and they're handling it well, there were some reluctant people and some elder people that had stayed at home, but police knocked door by door and no casualties should be expected. Yes it will change the topography, still those people won't have a neighbourhood to return to, lava flow will be barren for many years from now. Some people had left the dogs and animals in the property and actions were taken care to release or relocate them. And well interviews to zero zone people breaks your heart. It's expected to touch shore in a few hours, so the acid plume may affect the island as acid rain. Most crops were located in that area, and most tourist area too, so it will affect the economy of the island a while, so let's visit it everyone, after all settles, they need help to rise again.

I've been there in pre-Hive times (sorry for an obsolete t-shirt)

Aw Isee what you mean by obsotete! ;-)
hope you had a great time... I see you went up to Roque de los Muchachos, I have a funny story of why my current fear of heights was born there, but I was also a nerd child and even won a young scientist contest and was invited to stay there when I was very young. The nature of my island is wild, it has many scars, the island is new. Still it's been heartbreaking to see my people (including family and friends) As a child I used to dream of lava running down my street, and we even had a children tv show called "El volcán" (the volcano) and the lead was a volcano with Lapilli and Confetti (lapilli is another name for the ash) as friends. So you see even the children grown with that in mind that the volcano takes and also gives.

pd Updates of latest even, part of the cone collapsed, lava resumed speed engulfing Todoque village entirely, expected to reach sea today or tomorrow, airport tried to reopen on a volcano rest but it's resumed and it's closed again and some coast villages are on forced confinement expecting the arrival of the magma to the sea. I'l keep updating.
