Holi is one of the well known indian festivals. The feetivam marks the arrival of spring in India. It is the Hindu festival of colours. On this day people plat Holi by smearing each other with red, green, blue and pink powders called abir or Gullal. At many places people enjoy by dancing, and sharing food and drink with family and friends. Throwing of colours to each other is the signature of this festival. Therefore, it is often referred to as the Festival of Colours.
The festival begins after Holika Dahan, A little bonfire which symbolizes the victory of good over evil, righteousness over wickedness.

There has alwsys been two of Holi celebration. While many people like to play with dry colours, where they smeared each other with Gullal. It becomes hard to recognize anyone.

These two picture are from my colony, where it is hard to identify any. On the other hand, there is a dirty Holi celebration too, where the young one simply play with mud and soil untill they get exhausted. This is the scene from my brother hostel, where all the boys having fun by getting dirty.

They play less with colours. We also celebrste Holi with water colors too. Throwing coloured water on one another alongwith throwing water balloons is a common way of Holi celebration.

Holi is also a festival for foods and sweets. Different delicies were prepaired at home. I have this fruit custard that was too delicious to make the occasion too special.
