Will We Ever Understand The Universe In Its Entirety?

As humans, it is in our nature to try and make sense of everything around us. This is best noticed in small children. They keep poking around and studying everything they come across.

It seems like we are born scientists. Maybe that's why we have come to know so much about our planet, our solar system and the universe at large. Other species of the planet simply do not know about all these for sure!

But, even though we have come so far in our journey to understand reality, we have barely scratched the surface. I mean, till now we have only managed to observe 5% of the universe. The rest of the 95% is just not observable with our current means.

That alone should tell you how clueless we are. But what about the more distant future? Will we ever be able to understand reality in its entirety? The answer may not be as obvious as you might think.

Understanding It All

Let's talk about the obvious challenges first. The first thing that comes to mind is the size of the universe. As far as we look, there seems to be no end to the universe. Some scientists believe that the universe might even be infinite! How do you understand something that is infinite?

The second thing that comes to mind is the different dimensions of existence (or higher planes of existence) that have been proven by mathematical theories. Currently, we just don't understand what these mean in real terms. What if there really are these different levels of existence and we simply can't comprehend the higher realities?

Then there are objects like black holes. These are monstrous objects that break down the laws of physics as we know them. We still don't know (and probably never will) what happens at the center of a black hole!

Also, consider the possibility of multiple universes. Some scientists predict that there could be an infinite number of universes all floating about in a higher dimension, each its own system with its own set of laws of Physics. Our own universe is humongous beyond imagination. Introduce an infinite number of universes in the system and your mind definitely stops working.

So, considering all these, do you think we will ever understand reality in its entirety? I don't think so with my current set of knowledge and opinions. But I remain open-minded. Who knows something will happen in the future and we might make sense of it all after all!!
