Soviet poster : no alcohol law

in GEMS3 years ago

May 17, 1985 General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Mikhail Gorbachev introduced a dry law in the USSR. In the newspaper Pravda, then, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR "On Strengthening the Struggle Against Drunkenness" was published and came into force. This date is the beginning of the dry law, and this event has angered the entire adult population of the country. The incomes to the budget, which came from the sale of alcohol, were reduced, as drunkenness reached record levels.
Mikhail Gorbachev knew well about the problems that drunkenness brings, because his daughter worked as a narcologist. However, the leader of the Soviet Union did not take into account the sad experience of Americans in the fight against alcohol. It is worth noting that the antialcohol company in the USSR was planned even earlier, but it was postponed because of a series of deaths and the ascent of the then leaders of the Soviet Union to the throne.
