solo game jam log 1

in Game Dev 🕹️last month (edited)

im doing a game jam solo.
i am going to frankenstien together a bunch of code and see if i can make it cool.
collage is appropriation art and i am going to do the same thing with game mechanics.
the goal is to fuse these different mechanics into something unique.

turns out the game jam is hosted by Greecians. I wasnt sure of that language when i joined, i thought maybe it was russian.

Ok now i have completed video 7 of 9 in the tutorial series.

  • enemy ai
  • enemies attack
  • enemies die and have healthbar
  • player dies and has knockback and enemies have knockback
  • player flashes when hes hit and the enemies have hitbox
  • game restarts after player clicks when hes dead

this tutorial is like jam packed with stuff so im cruising through it.

i still dont know how im gonna using the flying boids but ill figure it out
once i have this little game engine built i will start tying stuff togtether.
i think im going to keep all the crazy debugging stuff in there to make it look extra crazy and hard to play idk.

im thinking maybe when an enemy dies it creates a boid. and the boid sprite could be a ghost
and then when a ghost hits the player the player slows down or something
or if the player shoots a ghost it creates a new enemy
something crazy like that
the metamorphosis of life and death.

once i get this engine finished im down to jam with you guys on it if you want. my creative process right now is "more is more" visually, and i want to just make a crazy piece of visual art. so if you want to help or have some cool code that could be used lets colllab.

Such a madeness looking foward to try it! At first look I tought about bejweled or the classic match three with the boids, or you could go the bullethell route!

Lookin chaotic indeed. 😁 Boids are a fun topic to explore. You could have different levels of enemies and in the craziness when they collide with one another, if they are the same type of enemy, they merge and morph into a next level enemy, maybe make it bigger and slower but stronger. Then eventually it gets so strong it is like a slow moving boss. 😆 🤷‍♂ Just an idea.

Cool I love it. Could evolve in a very complex score point chains by getting bigger and bigger enemies and not killing them before
