An Endless Stream of Bison

I wish they lived on my street. Can you imagine? A herd of bison nibbling their way through inner Southeast Portland. Scratching their heads and their asses on subarus and street signs. Pruning the rose gardens down to nubby sticks. I wouldn't mind being the bison lady. I bet the crows would like them. Big bushy beast full of bugs.

Where are they going to go when the lake dries up? When the plains turn to desert and the water disappears? Hit the road? Cruise the interstate and stop for sodas and salty snacks at Love's Travel Center?

I worry about people, sure. But people at least have some idea of what's coming. These guys? They only know right now. All they can do is their best or die trying.

Nice photos, especially the last one I liked. I don't think these animals would have survived in the city. They need a lot of vegetation, and cities are like "concrete jungles".

Oh definitely not, I just like to fantasize about such things. I once wrote a short story about a herd of elephants in my neighborhood just because I wanted to imagine what it would be like.

You can be the bison lady but I want no part of this, I like to keep the surprise encounters with potentially dangerous critters to a minimum if I can help it. You've been to Antelope Island haven't you? Was camping there and got woken up by the sounds of one having breakfast at the foot of my sleeping bag, was a lot closer to one of them than I ever have any desire to get. Especially before coffee.

I have, in fact this is where that was. They were pretty close, we were sitting on an outcropping of boulders and they were all around us. But we matched our vibes and everyone was chill. I've had to bypass them on hikes before. I've seen some hikers shoo them away with sticks. Dumb! They could really piss off a bull. Just go around and be calm and talk so they know where you're at. But yeah, they are formidable for sure. Two followed us for a minute when we left because they were curious, nothing more. It was sweet. And scary.
