Can Nigeria be great again?

A country blessed with numerous amount of natural resources. A country with great vegetative soil. A country blessed with great minds. A country whose currency was once valuable than the US dollar. A country of mine, Nigeria.

The question today is this;

Can Nigeria be better?

My readers would have noticed that the title my articles are mostly questions, I do this because I am someone that like looking at the world from different views and I can only get those different views from the minds of different people. So don’t hesitate to always give your opinion at the comment section

First of all, it would be best if I layout the problems of Nigeria and see if there is ever a solution to solve the problems.

Scarcity of food

Imagine a country with 2672 yearly hours of sunlight have scare food resources. Nigeria has one of the best planting land in the world and at some point we were one of the top exporters of palm oil and cocoa. So what happened?

Farmers are not supported here in the country, the government focus is only on the crude oil and that’s what the country is running on majorly.

But there was a time where Nigeria’s national cake was made with money gotten from tiling the soil. There is a building at Ibadan called Cocoa House, it’s is called this name because the building was built using the money gotten from the export of Cocoa.

Presently, the country depends on importation of food and since we don’t produce anything majorly, our currency is constantly worthless and food is ridiculously expensive in the country.

what can we do to fight hunger in the country?

Unemployment

Record shows that about 33% of youths are unemployed. Every year Universities produce fresh graduate and I can say that 80% of fresh graduates don’t find job in the first few years of graduation (it’s just my estimate). When there is no job people are idle and hungry hence they look for other means of survival which most times is on the negative side.

A lot of undergraduate student and even graduates have chosen the path of scam, popularly know as “yahoo yahoo”. There is a constant increase of yahoo boys and how even girls are so much involved in scam.
I’m not in anyway justifying the evil act that these young ones perpetrate but I believe that there won’t be a lot of them if they have something that give them a means of livelihood

Bad leadership

A wise man once said “when a bad leader rules, the people suffer “ I can boldly say that Nigerians would agree with me that they have suffered and are still suffering because of decisions they have taken during election.

I believe the one and only problem that all other problems are linked to is this one.
Bad leaders have been leading Nigerians for a very very long time. Nigerian leaders are concerned about themselves and the lives of their families and that’s not what leadership is about. If you want to be concern about yourself alone which is not even a right way to live just be a common citizen. Why would you be in a position where any little thing you do affect the whole people and still be selfish.

Nigerians are not new to hearing news of embezzlement and how one government official stole this and that amount of money. What do the justice system do to them?

They would ask some to drop about 20% of the money stolen. Funny right? Why wouldn’t they steal more if they are not brought behind the fury of the law.

It’s sad but I hope things change for this country of ours.

God bless Nigeria.

Sort:

We in Malaysia have been in the same situation in terms of having a leader or 2 that have been involved in scandals.

But we know that if we all of us were to work hard together in things that matter, we too will enjoy a life of prosperity and peace.

God bless Nigeria.

Found you through @dreemport

You are correct my dear.
If we can work together then we are sure going to make it!

You just described most of the countries in the world, there is a common source above all the governments that leads the way in being 1000% selfish.
This is a pretty well written summation of past and present. Couple of places you could use a touch up in your wording, but it's a good article.
This should be your source for the photo you used @baned.

Put the author's name in the box of the brackets and his name gets pushed out for more visibility for him. That is the correct source for your photo, if you click on yours and go to look for the picture, good luck with that lol. Just learn this and copy/paste this in, I already did the work for you.

Oh thanks so much James.
Selfishness you got it!

I’m going to edit the post right away.
Thanks again

I just read this post out loud to my husband. I look at situations like this and think.... man oh man! I wish that I could be in charge of a country like this! hahahahahaha

Not because I think it will be easy.

I think it would be so hard!!! So challenging. But also - almost FUN. in a way.

Because when you

  1. find people who want more
  2. give them a way to succeed
  3. protect them from those who would do them harm
  4. simply allow them to thrive

you can sit back and enjoy watching a country turn itself around.

but like you say- there are so many things currently against the honest people there. why should they try when even trying is met with such resistance - and such corruption.

It's like they are putting more and more sparks in a room full of powder kegs - and they are sitting back and waiting for the explosion.

I had no idea that your currency was more valuable than USD at one point.

wow.

I wonder though... what if the farmers aren't supported by the government? but they just grow locally for people? since food is so expensive - can that be a way to grow your own food and sell for less to the people too?

My heart melt seeing that you have interest in my country.
Hmm yes I have a plan to own a farm and if I become the president par adventure, I'm turning the whole country to be a agricultural country.
The aim is to supply food to the world.

Thanks a lot dreemsteem for always.

You comment always want me to do more

I would love to read posts on this!!!!

And would love to encourage you in it also. I want to hear more! Hehehhee

I have a huge interest in this...I might come to your DM with some ideas

you are very very much welcome to my DM, I’m very much open to ideas.

Have a great night!

yeah -i've been thinking about you for a few days now... will keep thinking hehehe

I love God and I'm all in.
Maybe I would write about the Jesus in your community

Corruption is a disease for a lot of countries. Greed pulls down a country and corruption should be rooted out. I'm not sure if it can still be cured but we can only hope so. I also wish that one day your country would be great again.

Thanks a lot for the well wishes.
I hope we start working and puting things in order

Well, many people have asked this question. I have also asked this question countless times. In overall, I have noticed that our lives country, Nigeria has all materials including humans to succeed but some indices like misplaced priority, common sense thinking and more have made us suffer in the midst of plenty.

Nigeria as a nation has come too far to fail. Despite our tumult problems, there is always a place to succeed. We shall scale through all these someday.
@dreemport brought me here.

Well said man.
That’s it. If we want to succeed, we need a plan but I don’t see the government making such plans

A country whose currency was once valuable than the US dollar.

Are you serious about this? Does that mean I should buy Naira and hodl. This season might return when naira will go up in value and I'll sell it off for profit 😂😂😂.

Hehe I would not advise you to by naira hahah.
Because I don’t see any plans for the country by the government.
The naira would keep on depreciating with the way things are going

Hahaha, it's okay ooo, I was just shocked at the revelation that we once had naira and it was higher than dollar. Is that not juju? 😂

Hehe you are hilarious!
Are you a Nigerian?
Because what you just said about juju is like a common phrase here in my country.
No be juju be that? 🤣🤣

@baned, meet @iskafan, @iskafan, meet @baned; you two probably live next door to each other hahahaha, so Baned, Isky's a super nice writer lady, and Isky, Baned is... well, he needs a little coaching lol, but a really nice guy!!! hahahahaha, glad you two met. See y'all in The Terminal!

Hehe that’s very possible

Oh yeah! We did have lots of conversation even before now haha.
🤣🤣
I think you are knowing late.

Hmmm, it is really sad that our country is in a messy situation such as this one, how can a country filled with so many golden opportunities have suffering and hunger as the order of the day.

Some set of people has unused money buried under luxurious apartments that they never live in while another set of people has to sleep under the bridge without shelter or food to eat. It is indeed a pathetic situation.
