Ask a better question....Proof of Brain

If this place is going to be about Proof of Brain, then I figured I might as well talk about the brain itself. I have two points to get across that have helped me immensely in life so....pass them on.

The first thing is the power of questions. I think I wrote this in a comment a while back but....this seems like the perfect place to explore it a little deeper. Here, to me, is the most incredible feature of the human brain. No matter what the question or how much knowledge you have on any particular subject, your brain will ALWAYS try to come up with a solution. It is actually amazing when you think about it. It's why our technology keeps evolving faster and faster. People keep thinking up better questions to answer.

Let's use a random example. This is the question that popped into my head when I told my brain I needed an example question.

How can I get across an ocean?

So, lets see how many "answers" I can come up with.

  1. I could fly in an airplane.
  2. I could take a ship.
  3. I could ride in a submarine.
  4. I could swim.
  5. I could latch onto a dolphin.
  6. I could ride in a hot air balloon.
  7. I could track the thermal currents and use a hang-glider
  8. I could ride in a SpaceX rocket.
  9. I could mail myself via Fed-Ex.

Those are 9 ways to cross an ocean that I just came up with off the top of my head. I'm sure I could come up with a dozen more. Some more realistic than others. I'm sure you have all probably thought of at least a couple I don't have listed. But that's what's crazy about the brain. It doesn't matter the question, it WILL give you an answer. And then you have to decide whether that answer works for you or not.

You can try this with literally anything. Your brain will always try to provide an answer. Again, whether you have much knowledge about the subject or not. It is a very, VERY powerful tool.

So how do you harness that power? THIS is the key. Ask the "right" questions. Figure out the results you want FIRST and then shape your question to help get you that result.

For instance, how do I get a bunch of money?

  1. Be a doctor.
  2. Own my own business
  3. Win the lottery.
  4. Rob a bank.
  5. Invent a widget.
  6. Invest in the next Apple.

Again, lots of answers. But are they realistic? Meh, kind of maybe. Owning my own business sticks out as possible but..pretty broad. What if we change the question?

Why do I want to get a bunch of money?

  1. Money provides security
  2. Money allows me to travel
  3. Money helps me provide for my family
  4. Money allows me to help other people
  5. I need a better house, car, clothes, etc...material goods.
  6. Money would allow me to retire.

Again, just random answers off the top of my head. I'm not putting any real thought into them. My brain just keeps on firing possibilities at me and I keep writing them down.

What are ways most "successful" people have of acquiring money?

  1. They're the best in their field
  2. They invest
  3. They inherited it
  4. They were in sales
  5. They worked their way to the top of the corporate ladder
  6. They have passive income streams

Let's take that last one. That sounds like something I could do. Not necessarily easily and it will probably require some sacrifice, but there are lots of ways to do that. Hive and Proof of Brain are examples, for instance.

This brings me to my second point. The key is to keep drilling down.

Try to ask "one more question".

Once you come up with your "solution", try to ask yourself one more question about that solution. For example, say you have thought about ways to make more money and have decided on trying to create a passive income stream. Something you can make money from without you having to keep putting a lot of time into it. Now, ask yourself how you can do that AND make it fun. Or, how you can do that AND do it with your son/daughter/wife. Or, how you can do that AND give to charity.

Do you see the difference? One more question can change the whole equation. Instead of simply focusing on passive income streams, this "extra" question opens up a whole different way of approaching it. What may have seemed a "grind" the first time around, now may actually be something amazing. Because, as the first part of this field exercise (or whatever you want to call it) demonstrated, your brain WILL give you an answer. Will they work? That's for you to decide. But if they don't, the "answer" becomes "ask a better question".

Anyway, just some ramblings. I've obviously barely scratched the surface of where you could go with this. But, if you find this interesting or insightful, please feel free to drop an upvote and a comment and I will happily reciprocate.

Thanks for reading.
