How to properly cite images designed in Canva - Help for Newbies and Oldbies!

in Proof of Brain2 years ago

Up until now, I've simply been using the words "Image created using Canva" on the bottom of my page, thinking that that should be sufficient! However, we try to do things BEST on DreemPort, and encourage all of our dreemers to do the same!

So when, I was fortunate enough to be gifted an awesome membership to Canva Pro - I started to wonder HOW people would actually know that we were using these images correctly! Where exactly WAS the attribution info?

Here you go! This is how simple it is!

Find the image you like by searching in the search bar! Here I was looking for an image that portrayed feeling "broken". Found this perfect little broken heart!

See those three little dots? Click there!

image.png

That will open up pop-up, that shows you more info. See the text at the top? That's actually a link! Click on it and the page will open up to the URL of where this image is hosted, with all the licensing information!

image.png

After clicking on that "Broken heart" link - it takes me to this page below! You can see the actual URL of the image in the top circle. That is the URL that you're going to link to, as proof of your ability to use this image! You can also see the name of the photographer. Since you are linking TO this page, with all the info - it's not necessary for you to write out the name. However, some people enjoy giving the artist a bit more exposure for their work! It's up to you how you display that. I'll show you both!

Here is the markdown code for hyperlinking text.

[text to display](URL of page)

or if you want the html code instead -

<a href="URL of page">text to display</a>

so in the case of citing the source of this image here, I will write it out fully like this
[Broken Heart by wing wing](https://www.canva.com/photos/MAD-KB_X3XY-broken-heart/)

which looks like this:
Broken Heart by wing wing

VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE... that if you are using MULTIPLE Canva images to make a collage - it is important to provide the source of ALL images that went into your final image! So be sure to keep track of all those sources and cite them all! Of course if you're using other cc0 license sites like Pixabay, Pexels, Unsplash or more - simply use the URLs from there!

Hope this helps you properly cite the sources for your Canva designs!

Thank you for this. Always wondered how to do this.

It does help.

Thank you.

Albeit I use cartoons and animation options but whenever I use images I should source them rightly

No more "made with canva" for this guy

super helpful. thanks! :)

Is this also applicable to those of us that use canva but not the pro version??

Thank you, Dreemie! A helpful info
Have a nice weekend:)

I get what you're saying, and I'm a Canva Pro user too... but would you say it's unnecessary to cite graphics we've paid for? It seems like the nice thing to do-- giving the contributors extra exposure... I'm just curious if there is a distinction to be made here.

!PIZZA

yes - you paid for them, and citing the source is the proof of it :)

when you have a blog on Hive - it is used for commercial purposes. Oftentimes, people are using images for personal, non-commercial use - and so they are allowed to kind of "get away" with taking images they shouldn't.

But we are being paid for our blogs. Many of the images that people use on blogs - are stolen. Some knowingly do this, some do this in ignorance.

But when you are using images that you've paid for - you've actually paid for the license. So you should SHOW that to people that you are using the images correctly. hehe

It's more for you - showing that you are legally, morally, and responsibly citing the sources of images that you have the right to use commercially! hehehe

Let me know if you have more questions - cuz that was a great comment/question! hehehehe

I think we're in a comfortable middle ground now... I like it. 😏

I was liking the idea that I didn't have to include citations for some of my image choices... I use Bitmoji graphics too, which is just a fun free app using my own likeness (my alter-ego, I mean-- @thatcryptodave 😎).

Bitmoji Example- ThatCryptoDave on Hive.png

I haven't been including citations for these either, but now you have me thinking about all of it.

Darn you! ✊
(Kidding. lol)

hahahahaha i just think it's always best to put it there - so no one has to ask!

its what the journalists do! hehehe we might as well be pro too LOL

and usually when i'm citing sources for my images.. i put them on the bottom - out of the way!

that way its there - but doesn't break up the flow of the reading
heheheh

but you do you! hahahaha

I definitely place my citations below the images also... in italics too, so it emphasizes the separateness of the text.

Good talk! I'll be following along (both of us). 👨‍❤️‍💋‍👨🙃

i was going to put a hug gif. but this is my favorite gif. so you get this instead hehehehe

I love it... but that tiny creature better not touch me! 😆

@smartalectees, sorry! You need more to stake more $PIZZA to use this command.

The minimum requirement is 20.0 PIZZA staked.

Perfecto! I don't use Canva but my takeaway from this is that here is one cool way to search for images I can use without any sourcing problems. Thanks.

I just learnt this from your post. Now, I will start doing same. Thank you for the info ma

It's well explained but I don't really get the last part

VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE... that if you are using MULTIPLE Canva images to make a collage - it is important to provide the source of ALL images that went into your final image! So be sure to keep track of all those sources and cite them all! Of course if you're using other cc0 license sites like Pixabay, Pexels, Unsplash or more - simply use the URLs from there

some people will create an image by mixing multiple images together - to create a sort of collage

if you do that - then you need to say where you got the images from :)

Okay, I understand now

Great information, because I've been using the canva app for months now. thanks for sharing this one. And God bless..

hey - you're so welcome! glad that it helped you! :)

This is so cool!
What a great resource, saving this to show people and me of course, although I tend to only make canva stuff with my own pictures....

yeah and if you do that... really not necessary to share the text or other little things you add (cuz those are just so common to all - and we make it our own design in the end!) but - if you DO use an image from canva - hehehehe feel free to use this help! LOL

I will Dreemieweemieseeme :)
Have a wonderful week, Just spent five hours on our local beach, we have a heatwave!

hehehe, this is my new favorite name!!!!!!
dreemieweemieseeme.

i'm in love with this name!!!!!!! 🤩

and i love it! hehehehe i think you need to say this EVERY time in the meetings.

how come your mic was only static today???? i want to hear your voice next time LOL

hehe okay I shall say it haha
Only static hehe I need to listen to the replay, as after 20 mins I was dealing with a phone call!
Next time early on then I will say your name on air;)

oh my gosh - i don't know what happened to the Earth- but it feels like WE ALL got a massive heatwave.

it almost turned me into a crisp last night LOLOLOL so so so hot.

i love heat - but i don't like hellfire and brimstone hahahahaha

i hope you that enjoyed the water!!!

Yes they issued a red heat warning for England and parts of Scotland, never been done before, it was hot but not like in 1976 that was a drought and mental heat summer for two months.
Don't get crisped, I have never heard a talking crisp before!

you were about to hear a talking crisp! LOLOL

hey - 1976... that's when i was born hehehehe

and here it got so hot - my plants wilted in just one day LOLOL i had to quickly water them before all was lost! hahahahahahaha

we are also having that thing coming across the screen saying "red heat warning" i did'nt know what that was. now i'll have to look it up hehehehe

1976 the hot year, and when you were born, well that explains a lot then!

ah the poor plants, yea I have been watering ours daily, so you be careful and drink alll those 40oz water bottles you made us do ~ Remember hahaha
