WARHAMMER 40k Lore - The Chaos Gods and the Warp! Where all the Daemons come from, and more...

What is the Warp? Chaos? Daemons? What is all this evil?

Hello there, Zak here from Cape Town, South Africa. I am busy talking about the lore of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Recently I have been speaking a lot about the noble Space Marines and the holy Sisters of Battle and even one of the alien races: The Orks

But now it is time to discuss one of the strangest and unreliable concepts of Warhammer 40,000: The Warp.

The Warp

It is difficult to explain what the Warp is without using analogies and all sorts of examples. We should try keep this as simple as possible:

The Warp, otherwise known as the Immaterium, is a plane of existence beyond the mortal world that overlays everything. It is where souls, psychic energies and thoughts are from.

As the galaxy breeds psychic races (Thanks to the Old Ones I think), each an every soul is like a little flame. Each little candle emanates types of emotions and energy depending on where they are focused.

This is what gave power, shape and habits to the entities within the Warp.

Let's focus on the 4 main Greater Evils of the Warp: The Greater Gods of Chaos. I could probably write a whole article about each of these Gods and the others as well but today is just an introduction.

Khorne

Source

Khorne is the Blood God who sits upon a throne of skulls. He is the God of Rage, Murder and a combat.

His followers tend to be warriors and they tend to get better and better at combat. Khorne's Daemons are all quite ferocious and geared for combat!

Nurgle

Source

Nurgle is the God of Disease and Decy. He breeds all the Galaxies' deadly plagues. His followers usually carry disease but become sort of ever-living plague bearer. Which is what his daemons are like - creatures who bring something disgusting to go up against.

Slaanesh

Source
Slaanesh is the Prince of Excess to some, or She who Thirsts to others.

Slaanesh is the embodiment of pleasure and pain and thus a sort of kinky combination of the two.

Slaanesh's followers are often given faster speed as well as an assortment of mutations. There are another bunch of Daemons that were created by Slaanesh that are fast and vicious.

Tzeentch

Source

Tzeetch is the God of Change, Mutation and Magic.

His followers gain additional Psychic girfts. Tzeetch is, however a really unreliable God. He readily rewards someone who did nothing and pushies those who did well. He truly is a Chaos God and is one of the main reasons that Chaos cannot ever reliably co-operate... Because of Tzeentch!

If you liked this post and you want me to go into detail about these Chaos Gods, please feel free to leave a comment below!

Cheers!

I always think of Slaanesh as "The Fun One" 😁

Hmmmm far too kinky for me. Lol. God of both pleasure and pain.

In the one book a Slaanesh sorcerer cast a spell on some humans and they screamed and died as they experienced such intense pleasure that it was so painful that they died... it's pretty crazy...

But yeah, people make fun of Slaanesh as the God of recreation drugs etc too. Lol
