Here are a few summer finds for this #fungifriday by @ewkaw
Here are a bunch of strange looking dead man's fingers aka Xylaria polymorpha. I usually only see the long white ones but this must be a different subspecies. You can see the carcass of one of the 17 year cicadas slowly getting absorbed by the dead man's fingers lol.
Here is Panaeolus foenisecii aka mower mushroom. I have a pecan next to it for size comparison. Later on a squirrel scratched my finger as it took the pecan out of my hand forcefully. It cared little about the mower mushroom.
Quite a few were growing everywhere after the rains.
I've read that they contain trace amounts of psilocybin in them. The only problem is you would need to harvest hundreds of them for any effect.
Here is some kind of Agaricon mushroom hatching out from under a tree. I suspect they might be
Agaricus leptocaulis.
I'm still not sure if Agaricus leptocaulis is an edible species based on everything I've read. Agaricus is tricky as there are 100s of variants of them.
This fly seems to like them. I've read that smell is one of the biggest keys to identifying edibility. If they smell like a store bought button mushroom then that is one key indicator they might be edible.
Another key is to make sure they don't have an amanita bulb at the base. This one looks a bit bulbous but not nearly as bulbous as Amanita. I should have cut the stem to see if there was any staining. If Agaricus stains yellow then its not edible.
Another key factor is to check the gills. Older Agaricus has brown gills and the younger ones have pink gills. If they have white gills then they are probably a type of Amanita which could be potentially deadly... i.e. the deathcaps.
That's all for now, I'm hoping to find something edible this weekend...
All the mushrooms you found are beautiful, and what I really admire is the knowledge you have about mushrooms. Thank you very much @sketch.and.jam for sharing your knowledge
Thanks for reading :-). There is endless knowledge to research on mushrooms. I learn something new every time I try and identify a them.
Nice mushrooms you got there @sketch.and.jam I've been wanting to get some here for a while but it's quite difficult, I'll have to go to a store 😅
Have a great weekend, friend!
Thanks, just be sure to get some rare ones from the store like Morels, or Oysters or maybe a Boletus Edulis. Wild nature mushrooms taste the best though if you can find them.
Noted! Thanks for these recommendations :)

We had some chanterelles and black trumpets in an omelette this morning 🙂 Leave the squirrels alone 😆
Lucky I wish I had black trumpets but I'm too far south for them to grow. That squirrel was fast with razor sharp claws.
