The mystery of the sip of coffee at grandma's cabin

Those beautiful memories with grandma come to my mind. I still can't believe she left us, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to her. I can feel her walking down the hallways of her cabin. I miss her.

I came to spend a few days at Grandma's cabin to get the paperwork in order so I could say goodbye to her things. I got up late today, it was almost 11am and the kitchen was all lit up with sunshine. When I came in rubbing my eyes to wake up well, I touched my grandmother's antique coffee pot to prepare myself a coffee to start the day with energy, at that moment everything came to my mind like shots of light.

When I was a child, that new year we welcomed nothing but the new millennium. We all enjoyed spending time with grandma, although that year we were especially sad because grandpa had left us. Everyone was in the courtyard, fireworks lit up the sky while I took out the old coffee mug to distract myself from crying, I missed my grandfather so much.

When my hands were on the aluminum of the coffee pot, I could feel a very rare magic. I prepared myself from that reserve that my grandfather liked, which was like a treasure in the kitchen cabinet. No one dared to prepare that delicious coffee, but this was an occasion where I needed to feel my grandfather close.

I poured my cup of coffee and the delicious aroma transported me back years ago when we were running so Grandpa wouldn't catch up with us. I held between my fingers the pocket watch chain Grandpa left me so I would never get anywhere late.

I took a sip of my coffee with my eyes closed and smiling to keep the happy memory from vanishing like smoke from my cup. When I opened my eyes I saw the kitchen transform into something totally different. It scared the hell out of me.

I was 10 years old at the time, but I knew reality from dreams and this was definitely happening.

I leaned against the wall as I clung to Grandpa's pewter mug. I don't think anyone could see me because people walked by and didn't turn to look at me. I could tell by the way everything looked that it was an old time. They were talking about coffee, it was a pastor who was showing some coffee beans which he called "fruit of God" to a couple of monks who laughed and when they tasted the beans they felt the energy of the caffeine. One of the monks told the pastor that this was the devil's fruit and grabbed all the beans and threw them into the fire in the fireplace.

I felt bad for the man, he looked disappointed. As the pastor was leaving the room, the aroma of roasted coffee flooded the whole place and quickly everyone in the monastery came over to see what that delicious aroma was. I could see the pastor's joy and the monks' regret. I took a sip of my coffee, I felt like I was watching a movie.

With the gulp of the precious liquid, everything began to transform again. I sat down on the floor so as not to fall and heard a scream. I opened my eyes and I was in a palace, on a throne sat a man with a bitter expression, it was Sultan Murad, the coffee executioner. A woman was screaming as her son was condemned to death for selling coffee. While the sultan rejoiced reading aloud the law that prohibited the substance of caffeine in all his lands.

I felt fear and hugged my grandfather's watch. I took a sip of coffee and everything changed like puzzle pieces coming together, in the blink of an eye I appeared in a theater.

Some women were performing a play, with a macho theme I should point out, they were asking for coffee to be banned because their husbands had excess energy from drinking it and they had to discharge their energy with other women. I did not like the play and took another sip of coffee to get out of that place. Surely a man was the one who wrote that madness.

I appeared in a farm where the Swiss farmers were complaining about King Frederick who had imposed a very high tax on coffee consumption and no one could afford it. That's how they lived for almost a century. Poor people without coffee, they thought. That is why they created a black market for coffee.

With all this journey in my mind from that trip, which is still not clear to me if it happened or not. I served myself in the old pewter cup. It was amazing that everything in grandma's cabin was so perfectly preserved.

I took my coffee, the grandfather clock that I always keep close by and went to the living room to look at some photographs. With the sip of coffee I could feel that rare magic of 20 years ago. I squeezed my watch tight and curled up on the cushion.

When I opened my eyes there was my grandfather looking at me tenderly, I hugged him and when I turned around grandma came in a white dress. They looked happy. They handed me a white rose each. They held hands and walked together into the light of eternity. It was so beautiful to see them, to feel them and to know that they will be okay.

With the last sip of coffee I returned home. I woke up on the couch with the empty coffee cup and grandfather's watch in my hands. Next to me, on the cushion, were the 2 white
white roses.

What a strange reaction from the Monk...

Some women were performing a play, with a macho theme I should point out, they were asking for coffee to be banned because their husbands had excess energy from drinking it and they had to discharge their energy with other women.

Oh, dear!

Wow, this was an exciting read.

Thanks for sharing this with us;)))

It was a good time travel theme...it lent itself to going through different episodes of real life: the monks, the ladies in the play, the coffee executioner and the Swiss without coffee for a century...what a story 😊👍🏼☕💜

Yeah! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nice one:)))

Thanks for the support ☕☕💜.

Truly a whole trip, interesting, seeing different and varied panoramas, situations and people, but for me, the most beautiful was the end, that encounter with the grandparents, those beings that mark us so much and those that we miss so much when they are not there, they make us miss them so much and it seems a lie, but in their absence we remember much more those moments we lived with them and those teachings they gave us, excellent creation.

What entertaining trips you have presented us in this great story friend @chacald.dcymt I definitely liked the structure you gave it and in a way I would have liked to relive with a sip of coffee those beautiful moments with my grandparents.

Thanks for your great story. Congratulations

Always with your wonderful stories, this time traveling back in time and you had different life scenarios. But the most beautiful was the reunion with your beloved grandparents and the gift they left you to remember them forever.

Hugs beautiful @chacald.dcymt 💕
