A Sublime Sunday at Work

For this #sublimesunday share, I took a break from my every other Sunday funday; payroll Sundays. Every two weeks, payroll for the company I work at is due by noon on Monday. We have a pay date of Wednesday, so I need to cram in everything early on Monday. It's not as bad as it sounds...and today I took a break to photograph some rust marks on steel in the shop's yard.

Most of the metals are what we call "drops." Most of the time, we typically order a larger quantity than required for a unique job. Fortunately, we charge 100% of the material to the job, but the leftovers are "dropped" off in the yard.

The accountant in worries about this stuff becoming obsolete. Yeah, it's great we got our money, but if we don't use it or scrap it, there is a chance we'll have to add it to inventory should an audit happen. Or worse, we lose track of it and order something similar to be used...accounting terrors. Still, the wannabe artist in me does appreciate the discoloration metal receives while sitting outdoors...

Some of it almost reminds me of the surface of Jupiter, for some reason. Some day, I might get around to actually figuring out how to take a picture of the surface someday...but in the meantime, I can keep dreaming when I see a piece of rusted steel.
