One of the three high vantage points in Tokyo were the Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Sky. I had been to Tokyo Tower before and so it was a toss between Tokyo Skytree and Shibuya Sky. While Shibuya Sky was not as tall as the other 2, Shibuya Sky won out in the end as I thought it was newer and the view points on top were more refreshing, as compared to the typical towers you find in most cities.
I booked the 6.20pm timeslot so that I can get some nice sunset colours. Do book early as the timeslots run out fast and they do not allow you entry if you do not have a ticketed timeslot. It was a little unfortunate that tripods, monopods and selfie were not allowed in the viewing tower, and had to be kept in the coin lockers right before going out to the viewing tower. There were also a number of over zealous guards that will come and stop you if you try anything over the top, even when you lean a little on the glass panes.
However, the photos taken by my old Canon M mirrorless camera (yes, it is a first gen model that I’ve still been using), still turned out fairly well. The new AI denoise featured on Adobe Lightroom also did a great job removing noise from the first photo!
Enjoy the sunset and night views! Do make it a point to visit Shibuya Sky if you ever travel to Tokyo. I’m sure you won’t regret the experience.
