Hey, how is everyone doing? I hope you're all well and good. My unavailability has reached new heights these days. Previously I used to make posts at least a day apart excluding major gaps when I got busy with something. These days I have been absent again. Although I guess there is a proper reason for that as well. I had this fever because of which I was always tired. My whole body was aching. And I couldn't do anything. But after watching another YouTube video of another company trying to get their own version of Vscode in the market. I thought I should talk about this new trend.
So the trend is AI agents. And the other part of the trend is companies trying to make people use their products in product development. So initially there was just vs code. And that was the go-to development platform for most people around the world. Both visual studio and visual studio code hailed as the best development platform. And it was owned by Microsoft. Then fast forward a few years and AI came over. Still visual studio was the best because it had integrated AI in its workflow rather soon. But then came Cursor. It was a fork of visual studio and it had more AI capabilities than visual studio at the time. That was the case because anthropic was the best at coding related AI models at the time and Cursor had access to them. Which visual studio didn't have. But soon they also integrated it with co-pilot. So now they're neck and neck. But at the same time the market is full of such visual studio forks which are supercharged by AI. Recently there was a big debacle of companies trying to buy a startup called windsurf. Which is another cursor scenario but this time big companies came in and had their way. Now I'm talking about all this because Amazon just released their version of this product. Which is called kiro.
The future is all about AI agents who are going to be proficient in doing your work for you. With minimal interaction required, I guess the most working state of agentic AI in the consumer facing side is currently these text editors which can edit text on their own based on your prompt.
