Sports have been around since as long as humans have been around. Because sport wasn't just cricket for football or what the modern-day Olympics do, rather it was a recreation and it would include anything that put some sense of friendly competition between humans from which they could benefit on an emotional level and they may feel refreshed or exercised. So literally speaking humans have been playing all their lives. And humans have enjoyed seeing others play all their lives as well. There is proof to that claim in the text which represents the history of mankind throughout the millennia. If we consider modern civilization then the Romans thousands of years ago would hold sporting events for everyone to see. And it would be a sort of a festival among the spectators. Now if we put it back a few thousand more years, we will find the first big sporting event in recorded history. And that is the Olympics in the Greek world. So it is sufficient to say that sporting events like the Olympics and in more recent times, world cups of different famous sports have been relevant. And people have always enjoyed them.
Now if we move on to the argument of whether these are necessary or not is a quite a delicate question. One may raise this question after seeing all the money and politics and bureaucracy and lobbying that is involved in these events today. There are many cases of economic scandals, coercion and manipulating the laws to host an event in a certain way. So a question might be valid about whether these events are even necessary. My personal opinion is that yes, these events are absolutely necessary. Just the same way it is necessary to have movies and music in this world. Humanity lives to feed itself. It feeds itself through food which it forages from the forests and hunts from the wild animals. But that is not the only type of food humans consume. Humans also need food for their soul. They also need some sort of exercise which will not bore them out because if you are getting bored or monotonous steering exercise than it is just another form of work and you will not enjoy it. Things like movies and music, poems and literature are important to sustain the human soul. It is the beauty and the elegance of these creations that give the heart something to think about. In that same way, sports is also a sort of food for the soul.
I believe that at best we should launch investigations and work towards increasing transparency of these governing bodies, which control these sports and these sporting events. And if that happens, a lot of money will be saved. A lot of players can have more rest. Especially in football where the fixtures are very exhausting and it has been a glaring issue for the past few years. In the end, sports and sporting events aren't necessary. They will always be relevant and there will be billions of people around the world who will happily pay their money to watch a game with their friends. It's the governing bodies which should be held accountable.
Sports really are food for the soul, something that has moved humanity since forever. But I also think we need more transparency and less politics in these big events, so the focus can go back to what really matters: the game and the people.
Yes that's what I think as well. It's the politics and inconsiderate spending that is making the game less about the game and more about money and other things. I understand that these are a great way to convey a message, but as soon as you use it for that purpose, it loses its real purpose.
