Do We Need Space?

I’ve always wondered if space exploration was ever really a valid way to spend government resources. Every year, major world powers pour billions of dollars into sending machines and people to do one thing or the other in space. Since the first man set foot on the moon, there have been several other attempts since then, many of them even going as far as visiting other planets. Not humans though, just drones.

However, so far, the mission has not been successful. Most of what they have been able to come up with is speculation. They assume that some planets are inhabitable due to some facts and data that they have been able to gather. They assume that Mars is the closest to being habitable for humans. And then, despite how much has been spent on space exploration so far, humans can’t still go to space as often as they like.

However, it’s no longer a government thing because some wealthy individuals are choosing to capitalize on it and are seeing it as a viable form of investment. They are willing to pour millions of dollars into space projects in the hope that it would bring forth massive returns. Elon Musk is only one in quite an impressive list of such individuals.

There have been talks about opening up resorts and hotels of a sort in Space. They even want to privatize it so that people can easily go to space to have fun and vacation as much as they would like. At this point, it is only a matter of time before we get there. But until then, one can argue that space exploration has not yielded anything so far.

But then, that won’t be entirely true, would it? I’ve heard that there are some experiments that can never happen here on Earth because the results would be influenced by gravity, so they take the specimens to the International Space Station and run them there. Experiments that have to do with microgravity will always be done in space and such experiments have yielded great efforts.

So, with regard to the health and well-being of the people and the planet, space has been quite beneficial for us. And then, we shouldn’t forget about satellites and how they have made communication and tracking so easy today. Thanks to the satellites hovering in space and covering almost every inch of the earth, we’re able to have cable TV from stations all over the world, we’re also able to easily communicate with people on the other side of the world without any form of lagging. Should I also talk about the internet and how with a simple geolocator, we can track down friends and loved ones?

None of these would have been possible if governments of the world hadn’t pumped all that money into space. I’m sure that there was a time when people thought it was a fool’s errand and they were wasting money. But not anymore. There has been marked so far, thanks to space exploration and for that reason, they will keep funneling more and more money into space projects.

Who knows, that thing we’re looking for, we might eventually find it! We just could find a planet with other beings and a habitat that is similar to ours. Yeah, we just might find us some aliens, it’s only a matter of time. But then, if we go to another planet, will they still be aliens? Won’t we, the trespassers, be the aliens then? Lol, it’s just like going to America and then calling Americans foreign when I’m the foreigner.

Anyway, space projects are dope and I look forward to seeing what else they get to accomplish. Space really is just the starting point.
