Customer service impact on sales

Weather we are buying online or from a local retail shop or the likes of ShopRite and other multi super stores have our experiences good or bad and a lot of time the experience we get from these shops tell if we return for more shopping, recommend or discourage people from going to shop in such stores

Customer service is one of the most powerful tool when it comes to marketing and trading personally I have my good trading experiences and I have also had some bad experiences and a lot of times I try to learn a lesson or two from such experience since I plan to own a business of my own.

A few years ago I went to a local market to get a bag and I had a budget in mind because a friend of mine got that same bag a few months earlier and I asked how much hea had gotten it which he told me and when I had the money I went to the same place where my friend had gotten the bag and a unlike what I had in mind the price of the bag had gone up.

No before I went to that particular shop to get the bagi had checked some other places and saw that the price had gone up so when I got to the shop I wanted to just leave but the shop owner called me back and asked how much I was willing to pay and and told him exactly same amount which my friend had gotten the bag for the man laughed a little and told me if it was some months ago he would have sold the bag go that amount and then he took his time to explain why the price of the bag had skyrocketed and I had no option but to buy the bag for the new amount also knowing that if I got it from his shop I would hardly get a substandard quality.

For me that day the shop he being the shop owner can decide to say if I don't have the amount for the bag I should look somewhere else or he could have decided to leave me to my faith without saying a word that made me purchase the bag so for me customer service is everything when it comes to trading cause I became persuaded to get the bag and I did.

This was an exact opposite of an experience I can't forget in hurry there's actually a woman close to my hotel who sells provision's and some other things and I regularly got stuffs from so one day the battery of my multi meter which I use for troubleshooting gadgets died and I quickly need to get another.

A while later I stepped out to get a drink and I saw the battery on the shelf of the store and I asked the son to the woman who owned the shop how much the battery was and the response I got for asking that question was " when you are ready to buy the battery you can come for it" that was a total turnoff for me cause I felt embarrassed I quietly took that I had gotten and left .

Later when I discussed with a friend of mine it turned out he has also had an encounter where the same boy answered him rudely and in the presence of his mom this made me to take a decision that if they were the only one in the area that had what I wanted to buy I would rather go to the next shop which isn't in my area To get what I need

This again boils down to the customer service of a trader cause people will always go and spend their money where that are treated with some respect and sense of humor
