• The truth about promise
  

Promise is an acknowledgment of debt, it does connect with the unseen realm.
I had always been concious of making unfulfillable promise out of anxiety or so, it's the most disastrous thing.
There's always a saying that so not make promises while you're too happy or too sad, it's so true as it can cause damage that is unrepairable.

The most disastrous promise not to fulfill are the ones that has to do with Money or love, some people had fallen into calamity due to the unfulfilled promise they made. I mean how on earth would you make love promise to someone without fulfilling it, some even went to the extent of making blood oath while nobody knows tomorrow, tomorrow itself is a promise.

• He means alot to me

I had always been careful of making promises I can't fulfil but I once made a mistake that still haunts me.
There's this area brother I had, he was a junior to me but he does everything at my advice, I was more of a mentor to him, he and his parents believed everything I'll have to say concerning him especially when. it comes to his academics.

From his junior secondary to his senior secondary I was the one advicing his parents of which school he should attend and what department his best for him.
Aside that I was a tutor and a role model, when I gained admission the communication reduced as I don't get to see him like before, but still his mom calls me sometime and I'll speak to him.

• How it started

One faithful early morning while I was still an undergraduate, I was in my third year when his mum called me to seek advice for his admission because he was about to graduate from senior secondary school and he was preparing to write external exams, I was happy for him and adviced them the best way I could advice my brother.

The conclusion was that he would pick my alma matter as his first choice which he also concurred.
Every happened so fast, he wrote all the necessary exams and he passed all and the next thing was the entrance examination which he was supposed to write in my school.
During the period there was strike and I was supposed to go for my Industrial Training the next semester, everything happened so fast that immediately the strike was called off, we are all called to write exam and after that I went for my Industrial Training.

• The unfulfilled promise

Meanwhile I had already promised him that I'll make adequate findings about the admission process, he was supposed to write entrance examination which will be scheduled for some period, I had assured to notify when the form is out, but that period I was immediate IT after exams, I had forgotten to make fundings I was on my IT then which was even away from my school and the place I lived.
I was so busy that I barely had time for myself, even sometimes I go to work on Sunday afternoon just to cover up, forgetting I have a promise to fulfill.

I never had intentions to do but anyways the deadline passed and it was after some days after the deadline the mum called to ask again, immediately I saw her call, I knew I had fucked up, so ignored her call and I had to call one of my friends to help me make enquiry in school, he then told me the deadline had passed. I was shocked and sad for days while the mother keeps disturbing me.

• Ashamed

I was in a confused state, should I confess to the mum or find a way to escape her anger?... I couldn't even figure out everything till a month passed. One faithful morning one of my friends in the area called me to tell me that I had been ignoring the mum's call, I had to confess to him to help me pass the message to her.

He told her and she sent message telling me how the boy lost his admission because I couldn't fulfil a promise I made, a promise that doesn't even involve money, I was so ashamed of myself...how on earth could it slip it mind, I wasted a year of his academics life. Well I had to call them and begged but what has happened cannot be undone.

• The lost soul

Ever since then the intimacy has been lost, the saddest thing is that the boy died last year while I was observing my NYSC (National youth service corps) far away from home.

But I believe everything happens for a reason
