Holidays are not enough

in Hive Learners21 days ago

Holidays are the most awaited things for all of us. We wait for holidays because it allows us to enjoy some moments as we want. Many of us enjoy the time for relaxation, some spend the time with family, and some use the time to do some extra work, which may be helpful to generate some extra money.

Naturally, in my country, there are 2 days off for government job workers, and it's 1 day only for non-governmental workers, Unfortunately, only a few lucky people can get a government job. So I would love to say that in my country there is officially one holiday in each week, as most people work in non governmental offices, institutions, or sectors. One day off in a week is nothing special because in that one day they try to take rest, doing the tasks that were undone in the week, like washing clothes or other household work, etc. So enjoying the day seems difficult.

Let's talk about the holidays of the festival. Festivals can be different based on religion. In my country, the largest population is Muslim, and the second largest (although very small compared to Muslim) population is Hinduism. For Muslims, Eid-al-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha are the festivals each year, and in the time of Eid, most people go to their root place or village to celebrate Eid with their all-loved people as well as with their big family. In the time of Eid, all cousins, uncles, and aunts come to village and it becomes like a reunion party for the family members. For Muslims, Eid is another name of happiness. And at that time, almost everyone comes to village no matter how far they are, unless they live in another country.

For the Eid festivals, most workers receive 3/4 days of holiday. Many of them spend one day in coming and going means in the vehicle. In the remaining 2–3 days, they need to prepare for Eid festivals, enjoy moments with family, and prepare again to go to their workplace destination. For workers, even in the Eid days, a lot of pressure works, which disrupts the enjoyment and happiness of the Eid celebration. Some workers can't handle the pressure and decide to celebrate Eid in the workplace without going to the village. They also want to celebrate Eid with their family; the holidays are too short for them. Very few companies give 6–10 days of holiday for Eid.

I think the holiday of Eid for workers is not enough and it should be increased. I believe 7–10 days of holidays can increase the happiness of workers. I know many businessmen say that economically, I bring huge financial losses, which is also a matter of concern. I am not at that level to think about how all the businesses operate, but I think working an extra one or half hour for some days can reduce or recover the loss. I believe that if the holidays increase, the workers will agree to work an extra one/half hours after the holidays.

Let's talk about the Hindu festivals in my country. To be honest, I knew very little about the religious as well as their festivals, so I can't say if the holidays are enough to enjoy all of their festivals or not. But I as well as I know Durga Puja is the most important festival for them. Unfortunately, there is only one day off for the festival. Every Hindu friend of mine would always complain about it. I also believe that it's kind of unfair that it's happening to them, as it's the most important and popular festival for them. I feel pretty for those friends, but in that case, I have no power to do anything. Many people started to talk about the topic, but from the government, there hasn't been any official statement till now. I think the holidays should be increased to allow the workers to enjoy their festival with lots of happiness.

By the way, as I already said, I know very little about Hinduism, and I have no intention to hurt anyone through the post, and I didn't try it either. Instead of it, if you feel I said something wrong or my words are offensive, I am sorry for it and it was unintentional.

Holidays are important for us but as workers, I don't think we can really get enough rest because we always have the mind of wanting to make more money as much as possible to take care of ourselves and our families.

As long as you work hard and not smart, you can never get the holidays you so desire. But it's not bad to be hopeful 🥰.

Yes. Money is the thing which making us work hard non-stop. All of us running after money and instead of it, balancing is getting difficult. And yes, we need to work smartly otherwise working hard isn't effective all the time.

That's right, if we can work more smartly we won't be needing too many holidays because then we can get rest whenever we want to.

It is nice that you want to give more importance to hindu festivals since you have friends and respect them :)

I think our government give them only one day holiday which is kind of ignoring them. Although current government are friendly to them, but didn't changed the old holiday system in that specific festival. I believe it will be change in recent years.

Workers dedicated their time to the service or their nation and when it's time for break I think I agree with you on the need for more holidays.

Like the Eid you use as an example, back here it's just two days holiday and imagine spending one day on the road and then only a day to celebrate with family, it's not idea.

Your suggestion of 7 days upward would be great and give workers enough time around to celebrate, and relax to come back to work stronger.

Yes, I think we need more holidays and I think few days of more holidays on create too much impact economically. Unfortunately most of the businessmen mayn't try to do it.

I also feel that sometimes holidays are not enough for us, especially those who are married. Thank you for sharing friend.
