In my childhood time, my father insisted I watch the news on television regularly. He used to think it would help me get updated and gain general knowledge. But honestly, I had no interest in watching the news. In fact, I felt annoyed when someone watched the news. I was only interested in sports news only and for that reason, I used to watch the news. So, my father could never make me interested in the news.
When I started to grow up, I saw that some of my friends were interested in reading newspapers, and that influenced me at the beginning, and I started to read newspapers regularly, but my prime interest was the sports news in newspapers. Additionally, I became interested in reading funny jokes in newspapers.
But when I received my first smartphone, I acknowledged that I could read newspapers online and I didn't need to buy newspapers for it, and it was an attempt made to save money. Reading newspapers online was somehow effective for me, and important news was highlighted there that could easily catch my attention, and that's the reason I started to focus on all the topics of newspapers. Later, social media became popular and getting news became very easy for everyone.
After growing up, I was not interested in watching television, but I used to see the news when I got the opportunity. I mostly prefer news to know the updates of my country with time. Our ex-government was dominating, and because of it, they made influence in news channels and newspapers, and most of the news was biased. Naturally, I lost interest, and I stopped reading newspapers and watching news on television completely. And right now I have no interest in watching TV news or reading online newspapers.
Social media is also a great and fastest way to get news, and during the time of the protest, Facebook was very active, and that was the reason I became active on Facebook. I was never a good fan of Facebook, but I keep it on my mobile now for some reason. There is a lot of fake news on Facebook, and I think Facebook is a great way to spread rumors. Almost in other social media, it's also the same. I am done with it and I am very irritated. So except for the Hive platform, I am not so active in other social media. Right now I have the feeling like I don't care about national or international news too much unless it's related to crypto.
My honest opinion is now I don't need any kind of news if it's not giving me any kind of benefits. I am getting any kind of satisfaction or financial benefit. I don't want to hear such a thing. You may feel it like selfishness, then I think that I am selfish, and I am proud to be selfish. I don't care too much about others in this case. I believe that nothing can bring back my interest in staying updated on news for the longer term unless it's an emergency situation. So no news actually means anything to me.

Someone who isn't given to news like myself. These days, the information broadcast is gossip(and rumors) with a tiny touch of actual news. It's difficult to tell which news-house tells the truth since most of their report on the same subject matter have contrasting details.
I read what I can on social media, making sure to sift as I do so. I don't go looking for the news at all. I just dig in when I come across it; it's not like there's much good to find therein.
In the case of social media, I think we are responsible for spreading rumors. If we are smart enough to understand what is real news and what is fake, it would be good. It's our bad habit to share news without verifying the source.

This issue of government influencing the integrity of government owned news platform is almost in every clime. It is a source of concern in Nigeria. It has made citizens lose interest in listening to the news.
That's irritating but now I feel our news channel is going back to its original shape because the government forced it to be changed. That's good at least for my country.
