Dangerous Developments: The Dark Side Of Technological Advancement

There are two sides to every coin. In this world, everything, whether good or bad, has its own advantages and disadvantages. We are in the 21st century, and science and technology are the talk of the town. Countries all over the world are aspiring to take technology to the next level. We have come this far, thanks to technology and its benefits. The benefits of technology in the lives of humans are undeniable. Over the years, technology has proven to be beneficial to the human race in several sectors. The importance of technology in our lives cannot be overlooked, nor can it be overemphasized. It has positively impacted various sectors like the agricultural sector, educational aspect, health sector, and so on.

There’s no doubt that technology has both advantages, as well as disadvantages. However, in my opinion, the perks outweigh the pitfalls. Gone are those days when the early men spent hours before they could complete basic and simple tasks. Gone are those days when our ancestors sent messages through pigeons, smoke signals, town criers, and other methods, which could take weeks, and even months, to get to their destination. To worsen the case, sometimes, the messages might fail to get to the destination. Today, in the 21st century, messages can be sent from the comfort of your home, thanks to social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, and the like. With just a few taps, we can send messages from the comfort of our homes, and they're delivered within seconds.

Now that we have established that technology has so many perks as well as pitfalls. The big question now is: has science gone too far? Technology has made life easy for us, it has dived into all aspects of our lives. Technology started as a good thing. About a century ago, one could arguably say technology had no flaws. But now, it seems some parts of the world are experiencing the negative effects of technology.

One of the ways in which technology has gone too far is through the provision of harmful weapons. The advancement of technology has brought many benefits to society, but it has also enabled the development of destructive weapons causing a lot of death worldwide. These destructive weapons pose a serious threat not only to countries battling with each other but also to the human race at large. Harmful weapons such as nuclear warheads are tools that have the potential to destroy, destroying not only properties but also claiming lives alongside.

I understand that weapons are important and useful to help defend countries and ward off terrorist attacks. However, with the advancement of technology, countries are producing deadly weapons and using them negatively. The First World War (1924-1918) and also the Second World War (1939-1945), resulted in the loss of countless lives. The thought that technology was not as advanced as it is indeed scary. Now that technology is far more advanced than it was almost 80 years ago, the thought of a potential third war is really frightening. Just like I have mentioned earlier, technology is good and useful to humans, we just need to find balance.

On the other hand, one of the aspects in which technology is needed but not really felt is in the development of cures for diseases like diabetes, HIV, and others. Despite the advancement in technology, especially in the medical field, it is disheartening to see that there are still several diseases for which a permanent cure is elusive. Diabetes, HIV and Aids, and other diseases, continue to pose a threat to the human race, claiming lives every day. This shows the shortcomings of technology in the research and health sectors. I have read news and updates that scientists and researchers are working hard to find innovative solutions, and I hope they successfully develop one soon.

Thanks for reading.

You're right on point on this, the rate at which destructive weapons are made is disheartened, this poses a threat to our world and humanity at large.

Like you said focusing on curing diseases like hiv, diabetes and the likes will go a long way in sustaining lives, than weapons that drains life.

Hello there, Sir Vic. I'm glad you agree with me on this. Finding cure to these diseases is way better than producing weapons.

Thanks for stopping by.

Informative post, i feel I'm not tech friendly but on observation i realized everything goes around with some technologies.
