Transport fare, once it goes up, it never comes down

in Hive Learners5 months ago

Greetings!

I don't know if it's only in my environment that transport fares operate contrary to the saying, "everything that goes up must surely come down." You know, we often see prices of fuel go up and come down. We also sometimes see the price of certain foods rise and fall. But when it comes to transportation fares in my area, they usually only go up and never come down.

In my current city of residence, anytime I'm traveling home to my village from here, I think about my life because the distance we used to travel three years ago for N2,000 is now N5,000, and we are comfortably paying it even amidst our lamentations because there’s nothing we can do.

The reasons for the high cost of transport fare:

One of the major reasons for the high cost of transport fare is the high cost of fuel. The transport fare was a bit manageable until the time we had issues with cash scarcity, which skyrocketed the cost of living, especially for fuel. We accepted our fate when the transport fare was increased, hoping that once the economy stabilized with regards to cash scarcity, the cost of transportation would drop. But no way—transportation fares in my area can only go up; they can never come down.

Just as expected, even after the cash scarcity was over, the transportation fares remained the same; they never dropped. Each time we get to the park and are told the fare, we shout, "Haaa! Hasn’t the fuel price dropped?" And the transporters would be like, "How much was removed from the fuel price? And besides, don’t you know how bad the road is?"

So yeah, that’s one of the excuses they also use to increase transportation fares. Actually, most of the roads within the area are very bad and get worse during the rainy season. I don’t blame them when they hike the transportation fee because most times, they have to take a longer path to avoid the main direct road. If they willingly decide to use the bad road, then it’s a big risk because it puts the vehicles at risk of damage.

Last year, when the fuel subsidy in my country was removed, the price of fuel went up dramatically, and naturally, the price of transportation increased as well.

Currently, the price of fuel is still fluctuating, although with only slight differences. The high price of transportation remains the same, and I’m sure the road transport management committee is warming up to push the cost of transportation even higher. Once it’s increased, we should expect the next hike.

To solve this problem, the only possible solution I see is that the price of fuel should reduce, or at least stabilize(should not increase again), and all the roads should be repaired. Additionally, the government should oversee private transport companies to ensure they maintain a fair price. Given the way things are, it’s very difficult for those greedy operators to lower their transport fees. So, to maintain fairness, the fares should remain at their current level and never go up again. Yes, it should be enforced and monitored by the government because these private companies are notorious for skyrocketing transportation prices.

Yeah, the private transport system is often used here.

Thanks for reading.

Fuel price does have a powerful effect on public transportation but we will continue to get by. How are you though?

Yeah, fuel is big influence to transportation fair.
A lot of people once switched to gas but I think the thing is no longer serving 😅

How are you though?

One day, I thought of checking up on you but I forgot and it's very bad of me. The worst is that, I hardly move around on this hive, so I don't get to see people that are 'alive' 😅
I'm fine oooh! I know you're good too and I know your brought bread from your journey

Hahaha, I bought bread from my journey I gave yours to @beckyroyal to give you. Didn't you see it? 😄

Lol, sorry bro I and my girl ate the bread o, in our dreams and we forgot to call you 😂😂

Hahaha, thank God I did my best in bringing it. 😄😄😄 You will have to buy him another one

I believe that the solution is to find alternative energy sources that are cheaper and thus allow the use of cheaper transportation, thus lowering the cost of fuel, food and everything in general.

You're correct.
The option of finding another means of energy is a good one.
Today on Facebook, I came across a post about a country that's constructing a road that's capable of charging cars. I wish that's possible in my country

Electric cars are an option, also through solar energy you can find good alternatives, or recyclable fuels, I think the world in general should aim for those options. A world with solar panels and recyclable, pure, clean energy.

You’ve highlighted a very common issue in many regions where transportation fares rarely decrease, even when fuel prices drop.It would be great if there could be a long-term solution like stabilizing fuel prices or finding alternative ways to manage costs. Otherwise, the burden on everyday commuters just keeps growing.

That's it, the burden keeps increasing.
Each time I think of how the system lacks management, I get angry. And it's not looking like it's going to be solved in the future. The issue has been like this even before I was born 🥲

This is true everywhere. In my country, there has been several fare hikes due to increasing gas prices. But when fuel price goes down, the fare rates never go down with it.

They amped up prices during the pandemic but now that everything's settled and the number of passengers they can accommodate has gone back to normal, everyone seems to be just hush hush about it.
