I enjoyed watching sports a lot while growing up. I played a lot too and got injured. Football was just okay, but wrestling was like the real deal. I think a lot of kids did enjoy all the tactics and fighting about it. It fascinated us. And like so many others, I wanted to wrestle when I grew older. I even practiced at home back then. You know, whatever wrestlers did, which we thought cool, we tried to experiment. That continued until I got a friend of mine injured and received the beating of my life. Haha.
Every sport presents its risks, but some are more dangerous than others.
With most violent sports, the dangers are clearly evident, and a person would have to be a fool to engage in those sports without acknowledging those dangers. There are some sports that have hidden dangers that are yet to be identified.
Football, as an instance, is a contact sport and I have come to know that heading the ball is a huge unacknowledged problem yet, FIFA has not addressed that issue, at least not to my knowledge.
In contrast, contact football codes have already made multiple changes to limit potential injuries.
Too, I can name one fighter right off the top of my nead, who is a testament to what repeated blows to the head can do. One of who is Ali.
I think that if you are concerned about sustaining injuries, it is only reasonable to not compete in these contact sports. They are called contact sports for a reason, and in the game, it is almost impossible not to brush against one another or throw fists, as the case may be.
The only reason to do those sports is if you have full knowledge of what you're risking and you believe you will be able to finish all of your games without getting hit.
Every sport presents it's risk but if you're going to have that constant fear, then don't do it.
Besides, there are many sports that cause way more serious injury and fatality. Sports like auto-racing, horse riding, sky diving, etc. For some of them, especially the ones like boxing and wrestling, i would have preferred that they are banned completely but for the fact that people enjoy participating in them or watching.
Athletes sustain injuries and/or die in every sport. Even in non-physical contact sports, too, like marathon races and swimming. It's something inevitable.
Now, it makes me wonder to what extent these sports can be regulated considering that the rules are the safest I think can be achieved.
I am of the opinion that sports stay as the are but better precautionary measures should be put in place. Athletes should be made to put on safety gears, they should be screened for health sakes, they should also be checked for injuries after every game and also rest well enough.
In my opinion, that's how far and how safe regulations can go.
I hope this was interesting to read. Thanks for stopping by.
So true.
These players are certainly aware of the risks involved and still sign up for it. You can not be a boxer and expect to have a smooth, clear face(your sport involves getting messy).
I agree that the bodies responsible for the sports have considered and put the welfare of the players first by making certain rules. Any more, and the game might lose its nature.
