Skills Of The Past, Careers Of The Future: Navigating The Shift

in Hive Learners3 days ago

The world is more advanced than years ago and it will be even more advanced years to come so the need for navigating this gradual shift as humans is important and I'm glad this prompt is brought up for us to share our thoughts on the issue at hand.

Since the recent evasion of AI and digital upgrades, things have not only become easier to get done by people, there people who are beginning to lose their studies or job essence as in regards to earning money whether with their skills or with their brains.

Luckily, not all skills and careers have been taken over by AI or digital technology and not in every places. In my country, there are still skills and careers that we people do in the traditional way wether there is AI or not because of lack of knowledge to use it.

But let's face it, it's only a matter of time before a lot of jobs will be overtaken if precautions which I call Upskilling are not taken by people in those skills or careers. There is also the need for guiding students who are about to choose course of study.

A course like Library Science is a big no for an option as there are a whole lot of advances regarding how people study now and how information are given. AI has really taken over this course and made study much easier for people to visit the library.

Social media and online platforms have overtaken Mass Communication, changing how communication travel around and it is even fascinating how much better and easier it is with these social media platforms than what is taught in the course.

There is also the advancement in manual data entry and traditional marketing which some people have as skills. The use of computer have made it easy to input and keep data. Online banks is posing threat to local banks (bankers) but not very much.

Digital marketing has improved the way businesses and skills can be marketed to the public, there is no need for the traditional way which is of course more time consuming and not even as effective as with digital marketing technology.

The need for Upskilling, Online courses and Vocational trainings.

Students who are about to choose course of study should be taught the importance of these skills so as to influence their choices. Not all will have to go learn them in the universities but there are now available courses online to learn thes skills.

Anyone learning into artificial intelligence, web development, digital marketing, cybersecuriy, programming, graphic designing and a lot of other tech related skills will have the right navigation through this shift that is here and advancing.

Conclusively, I think schools or universities should take it upon themselves to add new courses that will help students study and be more relevant when they graduate. There are a lot of courses that are not necessary anymore, they should be replaced.

The best is to give students advice or guidelines on the kind of courses they want to go for. Choosing an unwanted course just because of what they have seen in it cannot work out, but guarding them to choose the course that can bring them food in their table would sound better

Yeah, it's very important this is put in place.

I know library science as library studies, I usually wonder why someone would outrightly choose a course like that because the need for people that study such course is almost extinct. We have librarians in most schools but people don't really look for those that studied it as a course, anyone with an ability to to manage a library can be employed.

Exactly! It's useless as a course.

Well said!

I agree with you. Universities should thoroughly review the courses they offer and explore new innovative ones, courses that will serve as relevant in the changing world.

I didn't even know there such a course as library science. It's needless to say that that is a terrible choice for a course in this new age, as libraries as a whole are gradually going extinct.

I enjoyed reading this Merit🤗🤗

Hopefully, universities would do the needful.
