May the risk we take not take us.

Hello, everyone.

Welcome to my blog and another wonderful edition of the Hive Learners featured post. Every day, my friends and I pray to God that the risk we take will not take us; instead, it should favor us. Living alone is a risk. Everyday In order to better our lives, we must take risks. Failure to take risks means you are not ready to improve your life or change your current situation. Sometimes the risk we take put us face-to-face with death, and it is by the grace of God that we come out of it alive.

Like I said earlier, life is a risk. Every day we take one risk or another, sometimes to earn a living and sometimes for fun. There are certain things we do for fun, and if care is not taken, it puts us face to face with death. I saw a frightening video of a hiker online who missed a step and almost fell off the cliff. He went hiking for fun but almost died because of it. Even certain fun activities we engage in are a risk. The struggle to meet ends meet; we just have to keep taking risks and hoping the end result favors us.

I have been a worker at a at a sachet water producing company since 2019. When I first started work, I started as a delivery guy. I was one of those who went out to supply customers; it wasn't an easy thing to do. Loading the truck at the company and then offloading once you get to your destination, I always have pain all over my fingers, but I had to live with it until I got used to it.

Many Nigerians will know the type of vehicles used to deliver water. These vehicles are already almost dead, but instead of selling them off and getting new ones or just getting new ones, they keep managing these dead vehicles and putting the lives of workers at risk. The vehicle we used back then had no wiper blades, the break sometimes failed to respond when needed, and sometimes we worked at night, but the vehicle had no headlight, so whenever we worked until night, we always followed another vehicle with headlights closely and made sure we didn't lose them; otherwise, we had to park by the roadside and wait for another.

These were the types of risks we took to make ends meet. I never told my parents about the condition of the vehicle because they were definitely going to stop me from going to work, but I needed to be earning something for myself, and this job was the only thing I could get my hands on, and I did not want to lose it, so I kept the vehicle's condition a secret.

One of the many times this vehicle put me face-to-face with death.

The boss kept promising us they'd fix the vehicle, especially the wiper blades, before the rainy season. One day we left for our deliveries as always, and on our backs there was a heavy downpour, and we couldn't see what was in front of us. The vehicle was not the type you park by the roadside and wait for the rain to subside, as the whole rainfall could touch you right inside the vehicle, so the only choice was to either make our way to the factory or look for a place to stay.

Since we were on the outskirts of town, the plan was that once we got to town, we would look for a place to hide and wait. While discussing the plan with the driver, we did not see a truck coming, and when we tried to dodge it, we ended up in a ditch, with the seat of the vehicle pressing us towards the windscreen. For the first time in my life, I was so sacred, my heart was beating so fast, and my only joy was that we only suffered minor injuries like scratches and bruises.

One lesson learned.

  • As we go about our daily activities, it is God who keeps protecting and saving us from the dangers of the road.

Thanks for reading my post.

It's really God. He has been so faithful in preserving people like me too. I remembered the accident I had when I was much younger but God kept me.

That was a high risk you engaged yourself in. There is a lot of money in sachet water production but I don't know why many of them don't like putting their vehicle in other rather they allow their workers to suffer.

Thank God for that great deliverance

That is when I realised there is a lot of money in the business but the owners just like to risk people's life.

My brother, which ever way, we pray for God to deliver us from the risk we take while traveling. Be it for fun or for making ends meet.

You are right it's only God who keeps saving us despite the risks we take every day, but thank God for not letting the truck harm you guys that much.

In the same way, in the delivery work, things have to be delivered on time, because of which, whether it is a bike or a car, it has to be driven fast, and then such accidents can happen, so it is better that a person delivers on time. To give will have to leave before time so that his life is not in danger.
