We can all agree about the fact when the HIVE price is up, incentivized by seeing big numbers at the bottom of the posts, many people come and join HIVE, in the hope that they can earn those numbers too... I would be a hypocrite if I said that I wasn't like that... In my case, I came to this chain when the price was going down, but I did see over $100 posts when I realized the blogging side of the chain...
There is a never-ending discussion about how we should promote HIVE, where to promote it, how to onboard people, whether it is too complicated, or not, etc. Yes, all that matters, but... When the price is higher, when people have an incentive, they FIND THE WAY and nothing is too hard! Not even all those keys and browser extensions...

Created on Canva.com
Even if we "brand differently" HIVE, and promote it differently, our best marketing will be the HIVE PRICE! We can't do anything about it, but we could adapt to those users, receive them, and show the "other side of HIVE"... I know, I know... It's awesome to earn some money through content creation, but HIVE has so many other qualities, and I bet that most of the "old users" found those qualities and because of them, they stayed on HIVE, in good times and in bad times! Money is a great short-term incentive, but not a good long-term...
The community, the engagement, the human touch... It's not all about the money... It looks like it is, but it's not... I will give you a few examples... On @Liotes, we have this thing that we call "Wednesday Liotes Missions", where we ask people a question and they can leave a comment with their opinion... We do give people POINTS for engaging with the post, but those don't have a direct monetary value... And after a while, people don't even care about the points... But, why do they engage with the post?
People like to be ASKED for OPINION... And people like to be HEARD! @liotes isn't a huge HIVE project with tons of HivePower, but we try to pay attention to what people think and write... With our @Ourpick curation project, the main rule our curators have to follow is to leave a meaningful comment! It's not all about the upvote, but more about treating the other Hivians as we would treat our friends, or a family!
Why is that important? These small things "lure" you into the ecosystem... Commenting on posts leads to engagement, which leads to "finding your place", your community, your friends... Without noticing, you start coming to HIVE because of YOUR FRIENDS and not because of the money incentives... You WANT to support your friends even more, and you build your HivePower because of that... Until you are completely hooked into the accumulation phase forever... 😃 I mean, it's OK to take profits, but in this "organic way," you don't think about that until you need it...

Also, there is another perspective where many people don't see crypto as money... That was the best visible in the big NFT pump where people would buy ridiculous NFTs for thousands of dollars worth of crypto... It was just a number... 1ETH was "just" 1ETH, even if it was worth over 3K USD! I suppose that the "Never sell your Bitcoin" culture was the best engraved into the brain of BTC Maxis and it's not too much different from other coins...
On HIVE, it is a bit different as the token has its use case, and there is no better use case than "sharing" power with your friends... Supporting your closest ones is the best possible use case that exists!
Long story short, it's not bad to have people coming on HIVE because of rewards, it's on us to show them what is under the hood, what is beyond rewards... 1 meaningful comment under the new user's post is as valuable as much as a big upvote! If you don't have a big HP to support a good, valuable post, you can still leave a comment...
Thank you for your time,
--ph--

In one of the comments, I read this truth for Hive (applicable in life).
If you are surrounded by like-minded people, you move forward TOGETHER, with the same vision.
It is clear that not everyone is in the same financial situation and that for someone the money (even 1 HBD), which he can provide for himself and his family from here, is great...
But, with such an approach, ONLY TAKING, such a user, I don't know how long it will last.
I was infected by the "germ" - Increase your HP, one person with the same vision 🙂
So now, in addition to increasing HP by writing posts, I also increase HP externally, by adding HIVE to my wallet.
As for newcomers, I could advise them to be persistent in looking for like-minded people, and as an incentive in their beginnings, if they are a quality author, I am sure that they will receive support from various communities, as long as they find them and fit into them.
That's a very good advice! From running the #HHHLive and seeing some newbies coming to it, asking questions... Many times I heard the question: "How can I attract more whales to upvote my posts?"... The answer was always what you just wrote in your comment... Search for like-minded people, don't chase whales... First, you create a team... then you have a better chance to win... Winning "alone" in the social network game is impossible...

At first, many of us, including myself came for the money but along the line, we stayed, not for the money alone but the social connection we've built. Like me, I've grown here to the extent that I don't feel bad again if I don't earn much as I expected, I want to see comments from people where we can keep building the interaction and it keeps flowing that way.
I would admit that I do check my wallet every time and that's because I love how I'm building my power on the chain as I want to keep supporting others as it was done to me and still is.
Good to hear that you found your "purpose" on HIVE beyond the money! Supporting others is great! 😍
I think at some point, every users looks beyond the financial incentive, especially when they start exploring the ecosystem. The sense of community here is more direct and tangible than other crypto projects. Besides, when I read a valuable post but don't understand certain aspects of the topic, I can write a comment directly to the author to ask more and the author will reply with a detailed explanation, that's one of the things I appreciate the most here on Hive. The knowledge base :)
And not just crypto projects, but among other social networks too! I like HIVE as it is designed that everyone wins and that's why this interaction is much more positive than in other places...
In the late 2017s around December/January 2018, I saw posts that had 1000$ vote on them. You could see them on posts like that of exyle. Although he's no longer here.
I think our use case, the tech we and how we can share power with one another is a unique thing that is early seen on any other chain.
In other web3 spaces it's also about money. money brings the number, and takes the numbers, at the end not everyone will want to keep enjoying the tech and other good aspects when price isn't good.
It still amazes me how the system with HivePower and rewards was implemented so early (in crypto)! The "proof of time" is probably the best measure of how good the system is, the rest are small tweaks that we added on the way to the present state...
You're so right about this. I've already told this a few times, but it were the rewards that kept me posting as a newbie. The lack of comments was awful.
The comments will come once you have built a network and/or a large stake.
Great to see that you from the @liotes team also comment on blogs you upvote. I've indeed upvoted a couple of them with my initiative to promote engagement; @topcomment
Great job!
I saw that! Thanks for supporting great comments!! Your initiative is awesome!
When I see that posts from @Ourcpick curators are supported by @topcomment, I feel so proud of the team! 😃
Thanks! Every initiative to improve is great. You have every right to be proud of your team 👊
After reading your post, I realized that a long and meaningful comment on a new user's post can help a lot, and new users mostly do it for money because they don't understand the depth of Hive.
Without getting good comments, new users will continue to believe that there is nothing more than upvotes on HIVE... That's why it's important to comment and show them that real people are behind usernames! 💪
I think that initially most of us came to Hive for the economic incentive, at least that's how it is on this side of the world. After a short time we discovered that there are much more valuable things. Hive is the only social network I use and I think it is genuine and has a lot to contribute. I have found people here that even though I don't know them physically I appreciate them. I have found amazing content that is a pleasure to read. I have "met" places I never imagined. Even if I don't post regularly I find a space in my day to come to HIve, it's almost a habit...a good one ;)
It is the only where I post and use too!! I sometimes check FB for memes, but I don't engage there at all... Hive is my home... 🙂
Thanks for sharing your "Hive story"! It's amazing how close we can get with some complete strangers from another part of the world... The beauty is when you finally meet those people in live! I hope you will have a chance to meet some of your Hive friends and have a drink with them! 😍
Who knows, someday we may meet and enjoy a tune played by Mipiano ☺️. Greetings.
I agree with your outlook. Having people read your posts is something that I prefer over getting some large upvote. It just takes time to get people to move away from looking at the large value that posts can generate.
Indeed... It takes time to get there... Sometimes it's tough to create content without any engagement, but when you get your first comments, the thing changes... I remember how it was when I got the first comments on a post after doing a couple of them, thinking that nobody cared... It was a revelation! 😃 It gave a purpose of doing it!
Not just about the rewards there's so much. I'll admit I have the habit of looking at my wallet very often but more to see growth not what is available to take out. I came here following friends not due to prices. I quickly seen why they were here. From where I came from this place is many times better. I like your terminology "under the hood" I believe there's a strong healthy engine, I like what I see 😁
Oh, yes! It is way more than it looks from the outside... I know some people don't understand the long-term vision of HIVE, and how it changes lives around the globe... But, on the other side, I'm grateful to see those who DO understand, and having them around me makes me feel warm and fuzzy... With such a good company, I have no fear about the future! 🙂
Nothing but truths to be read here! It’s often the financials that bring people here. But it’s the social connections that keep people here.
Do we need other incentives? Good question, the social connection is not always immediately obvious I suppose.
Come to think of it, it really is a great platform, which is of course the reason why I’m so invested in it 😉

It's not obvious and we have to work on that... If it were, I suppose that people will much "faster" realize the social aspect behind the money... Of course, not everyone as some do come for money and don't care about anything else...
It should be easier to find projects, like yours if one doesn't see your blog, will never know about it, same as apis project, a normal user can't know about it without being directed
You are right about that... We have to make these "little helpers" more visible to newbies...
I will like to add one more point that sometime people like to share but does want to be judgedso they go anon (so many stories in Reddit), not sure if getting a mechanism of creating anon and unlinked account might drive the traffic in hive.
I suppose that most people are "anonymous" in some way on HIVE... Even some big whales are still anon, and it depends on what you want to share with others... The option is out...
Maybe it's better to let nature takes its course.. Once crypto becomes more and more mainstream, I think the time will come for people to discover about Hive.

Usually, the "organic" onboarding is more effective than the one where we "push" hard to onboard... Natural selection... 😃
Financial gain is definitely the best motivator...
Maybe producing a pump-and-dump scheme would be cheaper than funding some advertising campaigns. 😃
haha, that's an idea :-)
I always make sure that I upvote newcomers and comment on their intro post. The good thing is I get a follow after that.
It's a great way to encourage newbies to continue their HIVE journey! 💪
I think that no one would be constant on HIVE unless they get in return for their efforts, thus money matters.
Money does matter, but it goes in the background when you find "your" company on HIVE... I suppose it depends on the people with whom are you surrounded... When I check the people that I interact with here on HIVE, I see the majority of them with a long-term vision and focus on building and growing...
