If lying is to save life...

Greetings!

There's no other name to lie other than lie. No other nomenclature, being it white or red, can paint a lie to be something fine or good or can take a lie from not being a lie.

However, there are some situations that warrant a cover up in the form of a lie, when a situation is in a critical situation that may further expand the disaster that might have taken place, then such a cover up or white lie as it might have been said is needed.

Having said so much about cover up and lies, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is about, “A white lie.”

I have seen where people's lives were being saved just because of a cover up lie being told to some people. Some time ago, when I lost my mum, the sad news did not break out to my grandma who was of age at the time her only daughter was dead. Then, she was not in good health and just because of this, everything was kept in a secret from her and when she asked about her only daughter who happened to be my late mother, those that were around her refused to break the news to her and instead, a cover up lie which is known as a white lie was told to her and the lie was that she has travelled out of the country on an assignment.

When she heard this, she was not that comfortable with it and this was because she had known her only daughter to be her best friend who would not under any circumstances keep any secret from her, but since she had no option than to believe the lie, she accepted her fate.

One day I went to pay her a visit. On getting to her, she asked me if it was true that my mum had travelled and since I have been told not to tell her the truth but to tell her white lie, I reiterated what people have been telling her and also lied to her.

So, this white of a thing back then was not something I was well pleased with as I would want to sin against God who had warned us humans against sin in the scripture, but all the same, if we had not used that method of telling her that she, I mean her daughter had travelled, the situation would have gotten worse as we might have lost her as a result of the untimely death of her only daughter.

Although, when she was about to give up the ghost, she told everyone present by her sick bed that she knew that we all lied to her that her daughter had travelled on an assignment to abroad, but that all is well.

In conclusion, telling lies to prevent lives and properties is not that bad to me as it would help to sustain and relieve the tension that might have caused damages to the characters involved.
