Most of the time, we tend to get lost while trying to find ourselves and what we best fit in. I have seen myself in this scenario several times and I am sure it is not the same for me alone but others would have experienced this before.

The way the world is, it is often said that it is not wise to put all your effort into learning a particular thing but diversify into learning numerous trades to be on the safe side. By this, we find many people picking up more than one skill at a time and trying to put equal concentration into learning all at the same time.
It is funny how we think that diversification is easy and a faster way to grow, but it keeps us distracted from the main direction of what we really want. Or do I say, it would keep us confused on the best ways of weighing our focus on the individual skills?
For me, I am someone who has many on his plate which mean, I am into many things at the same time. Speaking from experience, I am not as focused as I used to think I am and have possibly lost direction. To explain why I think so, what does it mean to be focused?

For the context of this post:
A CLEAR GOAL AND DREAM
When you say you have a clear goal and dream, this means your mind is focused in one direction and only driving towards that path. It does not mean, having two paths that lead to different destinations and therefore splitting yourself into two for the purpose of passing through two paths at the same time.

Someone who doesn't know which path he wants to follow definitely does not have a direction and a clear goal. We can conclude that such a person is confused and would not settle for the success he dreams to achieve but for whatsoever outcome life gives him even though is far lesser than what he wants for himself.
AN EYE FOR THE FUTURE PRIZE
It is necessary for you to have a high and in-depth explanation of where your destination would be. Without knowing where you are headed, how would you then arrive at your destination? This is what I call an eye for the future prize.

Now Imagine someone who is trying to diversify, with no clear focus, would such a person have an in-depth description of how his destination would be? The truth about life is, that we can actually do more than one thing at the same time but never would we achieve great things in it compared to someone who has his full focus and already knows what he wants.

Now, ask yourself, are you still battling with what you want for yourself and building that aspect in your life or you are one of those who are lost in focus trying to split yourself into two to walk in two directions at the same time?
It is not a shame to accept where you stand in this group now, because it is better to know now than ignore to regret it in the future.
EFFORTS PLACED TOWARDS THE GOAL
For someone who has a sharp eye on the future prize, you would definitely have the time to place in enough effort towards achieving your goals. There would be little to no distractions from the prize. There would not be bus stops or cruise ride out of direction towards that goal. Your mind would be fixed and straight, and definitely, you would arrive at your destination much faster than someone with a distracted mind.
Coming right back to me....
I have analyzed myself from all the questions I asked and found out that I have lost direction. And it is better for me to say it and know it now before it is too late. I am not ashamed to admit it since it is the only way for me to work on myself. Now enough of me!

Please permit me to add this simple story.
You've got 6 hours per day to study and your goal is to score A1 in chemistry (because it's the only thing that matters). But because you like physics, geography, and maths you then shared your 6 hours into 4 places to study other subjects.
Your friend Peter uses the same 6 hours to chemistry. Results came out; you scored C6 and he scored A1. You complained you studied hard for 6 hours everyday. But Peter was more focus than you are. Results will never be the same.
When it comes to achievement, amount of input determines the kind of outcome you get. Multitasking will only reduce the time you've got to input in a thing.
exactly, you gave a perfect description of the whole context of my post.
Exactly.. thanks for dishing this out.
You know diversification is not for everybody
As they say jack of all trade the master of none.
Sometimes we only need to focus on that particular one and get it done
This is helpful
Thank you for sharing.
Funny enough, the first title I used for this post was jack of all trades is a master of none. I decided to change it because this particular title seem to fit better!
Lol..yeah this present title does fit well
Diversification is what a lot of people do now. But I want to quickly add that people diversify to put food on their table. With the way the economy is going now, depending on one source of income may turn you into a beggar.
I have seen people who do a lot of things and do them well too. That's the jack of all trades and master of them all logic. I think that is an individual thing. Whatever drives you to doing multiple things, you should do them all with focus. But can you focus on so many things at the same time? Quite tacky if you ask me.
People have various views about diversification but the truth remains that in as much as it is good, it will take extra effort to achieve our goal when we are diversified.
Hence, I even prefer perfecting one before entering the other
This is really a wonderful post, thanks for sharing 👍
Yeach exactly, knowing something to a particular point in which you are satisfied is okay before you begin of going into another. That is the best way to diversify than trying to do two things at the same time. Your mind would surely be distracted.
That's the more reason I don't buy into the idea of having a plan B. Plan B will make you not to give 💯 attention to the initial plan. Because one thinks it might no work. I give my 100% attention to whatever I am doing, because I believe it must work.
Yeah... if you have a plan B then you already have the mind of plan A not working at all so all the efforts would not be put into plan A. A very nice explanation. Thank you!
It is true that many people do not know where to go in life nor know how to walk towards their purpose. They tossed like trees not locating the right path to take.
I thank God for the Grace given to me to move towards my purpose in life.
Thank you @starstrings01 for this inspiring piece.

Ahhh 😯 I just got to know about hive learners not quite long 😞
You have taken your time to succinctly explain why people don't make it to achieve their goals. I must tell you that, it's one of the best posts I read here today. Well-done!
Thank you very much for your words.
One step at a time!
A child doesn't learn how to crawl, walk and run in a day and definitely man can't walk taking 2 steps at a time no matter how urgent or in a hurry one can be, you either take the left leg first follow by the right or the other way round but if one tries to move both at a time, one is aiming for a fall.
So is multitasking, thanks for sharing
