We've been running our Topcomment curation service for a couple of months now. A lot of people know what we do, but we sometimes do still get questions from people that want to know how Topcomment works.
In this blog we will explain how Topcomment works and how you can draw our attention to quality comments that are elegible for an upvote.
In short, there are two ways how we work:
- We as curators proactively look for high quality comments on the Hive blockchain.
- Any Hiver can nominate a comment they think deserves to be curated as a topcomment.
I will explain both methods in this blog.
1: A Script that collects long comments
We as Topcomment curators are constantly looking for high quality comments. We run a script that collects all comments of a certain length. A long comment could be an indicator that the commenter has put some effort in the comment. And we don't upvote short comments.
And no, we will not tell the exact length a comment should be to get picked up by our script.
We collect the comments in our Topcomment Discord Server
It is a public discord server which you could join, but we curators have our own private channels.
One of them is #comments
In this channel the scripts copies links to long comments every hour. The topcomment curators frequently check the channel, visit the links to the comments and check whether the comment deserves an upvote.
2: Nominations by other Hivers
Since the stream of comments in our channel can be very long and we don't have infinite Voting Power, we can not upvote every quality comment in the channel.
But we do have another option for a comment to be checked out by our curators; Any Hiver can reply on what they think is a high quality comment and mention @topcomment
This way we will get notified and will check it out.
A lot of Hivers are already using this form of notifications (see the screenshot below).
What we don't upvote!
The Topcomment Curation service doesn't have unlimited resources, so we can't upvote all comments in the script or all that are nominated.
But even if we had, we don't upvote everything. We have some rules that we apply to both the script as the comments you nominate.
And those rules are (at least for now) as follows:
1. Comments with hate speech, racism, conspiracy theories or other negative reactions
I strive to keep the community positive. Comments promoting hatred, racism, or conspiracy theories will not be upvoted.
2. Comments from users with Hivewatchers downvotes
I do not want to support scammers or fraudulent activity. If a user has been downvoted by Hivewatchers, I will not upvote their comment.
3. AI-generated comments
These comments will not receive upvotes, as they are not authentic human interactions.
4. Comments that already have significant rewards
If a comment has already received a substantial reward, I will skip the upvote. The same applies to comments that are part of the commentrewarder initiative.
5. Giveaways or contest entries
There are some initiatives asking you to submit your entry in the comments. These are excluded from Topcomment upvotes.
6. Commenting on own blogs
Comments from bloggers on their own blog will not be upvoted. It is only natural that you respond to comments on your own blog.
Support Topcomment with Delegations
The more delegations Topcomment gets, the higher the rewards we can give away!
And you profit from the delegation as well since we return 80% of the curation rewards to the delegator.
The rewards are sent in the form of liquid Hive on a daily basis.
So, supporting Topcomment with a delegation can be really beneficial for you.
You can use the following tool to delegate an amount of your choice or select one of the predefined amounts below.
https://thecrazygm.com/hivetools/account/delegate/topcomment/100
| 10 HP | 25 HP | 50 HP | 100 HP | 250 HP | 500 HP | 1000 HP | 1500 HP | 2000 HP |
Follow the Curation Trail
If you don't want to delegate you can also choose to following the Topcomment voting trail via Hive.Vote.
This way you do support the project and the commenters, but you'll receive the curation rewards yourself. In Hive.Vote you can configure a percentage for the votes.
