An Average Day at Work | Alive and Thriving on May 24, 2025 | Extra (HIVE + Health) Titbits

Hi there. How are you? I hope you are doing great. Welcome to my short diary for Friday, May 23, 2025!

I walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes after 10 pm on Saturday. Before ( and after) lunch, I couldn't walk because, after morning shift duty, I went to a firm to pick up a product. After returning home, I was feeling tired and decided to take an afternoon nap, instead of walking. I did 9,895 steps on Saturday.

At work, I consulted 30 patients in my chamber. Hence, it was an average day for me. Of them, there was a below-40 patient who came with back pain. She was having DM for the last few years and it was totally uncontrolled. She was also having lower limb pain. Her blood sugar was almost 400 mg/dl. When I reviewed her medicines, I found that her medicines weren't sufficient to control her sugar. It needed to add more medicines. She hadn't been in contact with the doctors lately. Hence, the drug dosages weren't adjusted accordingly. Regular follow-up is quite important for a diabetic patient. Moreover, she wasn't doing any exercise. I asked her to come for a regular follow-up. I also emphasized performing some exercises daily.

In the visa medical section, a handful of people came for the check-up. I examined some of them. In my chamber, no emergency case arrived, Alhamdulillah!

Blood sugar units

It's important to remember that blood sugar can be measured in two units: mmol/L and mg/dl. Many diabetic patients have a glucometer at home, which displays one of these units. This can confuse patients unfamiliar with the other unit when they see the result. It's important to note that both units are correct and represent the measurement in different ways.

Converting between the two units is fairly simple using the following formulas: mmol/L × 18 = mg/dl and mg/dl ÷ 18 = mmol/L. For example, if a blood sugar reading is 5 mmol/L, it can be converted to 90 mg/dl (5 × 18). Conversely, if the blood sugar level is 150 mg/dl, it can be converted to 8.3 mmol/L (150 ÷ 18).
