Crucifying the Old Man: Taking Every Thought Captive

in ADSactly5 days ago

Your human spirit, once recreated by the Spirit of God, becomes your inner compass — your witness. It is this reborn spirit that must reject and condemn anything that attempts to rise above or contradict the knowledge of God within you.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5

This verse shows us the battlefield of the mind. The thoughts, dreams, imaginations, and lies of the enemy must be forcefully brought under submission to Christ. But how can you do this when the “old man” — the sinful nature — is still alive in you?

The Old Man Must Be Crucified
“Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” — Romans 6:6–7

As long as the old nature — the "old man" — is allowed to live, it will retain dominion, resisting the Spirit of God. Many believers still fall into sin not because they are not saved, but because they have not crucified the flesh or have remained ignorant of their spiritual authority.

Ignorance is not just a lack of information — it is a spiritual disease that keeps people in bondage.

How can you please God while keeping the flesh alive?
How can you serve God effectively while being ruled by thoughts and desires of the old life?

Whose Servant Are You?
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey?” — Romans 6:16

This verse makes it clear: whoever you serve becomes your master. If you yield to sin, sin rules over you. If you yield to righteousness, righteousness becomes your master.

It's not enough to make a verbal confession. There must be a daily decision to follow Christ and a willing crucifixion of the flesh.

Jesus: The Way, The Truth, and The Life
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” — John 14:6

This is not just a beautiful statement — it is the foundation of Christian life. Jesus is not just a way; He is the only way. He is not just a messenger of the truth; He is the Truth itself. He is not only the source of life; He is Life.

And we know that Jesus is the Word. So when we embrace the Word, we are embracing Jesus Himself.

“The entrance of thy word giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” — Psalm 119:130

Final Encouragement: Let the Word Work in You
The Word of God is not just meant to be read — it is meant to transform. It has the power to:

Save the sinner

Forgive the guilty

Deliver the bound

Enlighten the ignorant

Sanctify the believer

Let the light of the Word flood your soul. Let it destroy the old man. Let it renew your mind, and help you take every thought captive.

Only then can you walk in true freedom, serve God effectively, and live out your identity as a new creation in Christ.

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: oold things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
