On a serene beach walk near Anjuna, I stumbled upon a hidden gem – a beach house called Eva. Renowned for its exquisite cocktail and tapas bar, Eva stood out with its refreshing and aesthetic allure. A simple glance into the space revealed an ambiance so captivating, it felt unmatched by any of the other cafes or resto-bars in the area. It was a vibe that whispered sophistication and comfort, blending seamlessly with the natural charm of the coastline.
Everything at Eva was adorned in soothing tones of beige and white, exuding a calm, coastal charm. The pretty white tents, nestled with plush, cozy cushions at their base, faced the endless shores, offering an inviting spot to unwind.
The gentle sea breeze added a touch of warmth, making the atmosphere effortlessly beachy and serene. In the corners, large, intricate dreamcatchers swayed with each gust of wind from the ocean, adding a whimsical touch to the already magical setting.
Right at the entrance, a charming signage caught my eye—a basket placed to collect shoes, accompanied by a wooden sign that read, “Shoes here, Love there.” The simple yet thoughtful gesture invited guests to step in barefoot, embracing the earthy connection to the beach. The basket brimmed with a delightful mix of flip-flops, sporty sneakers, and a few pairs of traditional Indian footwear, each telling a story of its own. It was a humble yet heartwarming start to the cozy retreat that awaited beyond.
Beyond the sign stood two easy chairs, invitingly placed against a backdrop of lush greenery. Vibrant croton plants and graceful ferns added a natural touch to the setting, their leaves swaying gently in the breeze. Amusingly, nestled behind this living greenery was a poster of a blue beach with palm trees. I hadn't realized it until I glanced at it that indeed it was a playful addition that blended fantasy with reality.
To the right, a turquoise Vespa caught my eye, parked deliberately for those aesthetic beach vibes. A basket rested on its leather seat, brimming with faux pink roses, adding a whimsical touch to the scene.
Nearby, wooden boards welcomed visitors with handwritten phrases like “Welcome to Eva Café, Love Everywhere,” adorned with vibrant orangish-red flowers that popped against the magenta backdrop, creating a rich and inviting ambiance. The roof above was crafted from a jute mat-like netting, seamlessly blending with the café’s beige-toned decor. The rustic elegance extended throughout the space with jute baskets and mats, adding layers of earthy charm.
The crowd told its own story, nearly every wooden chair was occupied, tables abuzz with people savoring side snacks and hearty dishes. A few guests indulged in creamy pasta served with fresh bread, their laughter and conversations mingling with the ocean breeze. It was a warm haven where simplicity and style met effortlessly.
As I ventured further into the beach house, the lively energy continued to unfold. Inside the cozy kitchen area, I noticed a few locals nibbling on delicious extras from the dishes they were preparing. I couldn’t resist capturing a few candid shots, perfectly framed with a dreamy dreamcatcher swaying in the background.
Amidst the charm, a young woman, clearly from abroad worked gracefully, adding an international touch to the local scene. The old wooden doors, painted a soft, weathered blue, evoked memories of traditional Portuguese houses.
Nearby, a side table displayed intricate crochet mats, a calculator and an assortment of beige cards paired with white and blue coasters, seamlessly tying into the café’s aesthetic. Hanging from hooks were beautifully handcrafted bags, made from locally sourced grass used for basket weaving, alongside slightly vibrant Indian kurta pieces for women to browse. To top it off, a playful tropical vibe was brought in with sweet pineapples and miniature surfing boards, blending culture and coastal charm into one delightful experience.
A vintage telephone stood proudly on display, surrounded by glass bottles and vessels filled with seashells. Nearby, pepper and salt shakers sat conveniently within arm’s reach, located practicality next to the cheesy dishes that have aromas wafting from just inches away.
On one wall, a bicycle wheel served as an unconventional photo frame,
with snapshots pinned across its spokes.
Beyond these delightful details, the real showstopper revealed itself: the mighty rocky expanse of Anjuna Beach. The vivid blue waters rushed and crashed against the dark, time-worn rocks, creating a symphony of nature’s raw beauty. The coastline stretched into secluded spots inaccessible by foot, beckoning adventurers to explore its untouched allure.
Some spots along the stretch were wider and more inviting, offering the perfect setting for a leisurely walk on a sunny afternoon like this one. The warmth of the sun, coupled with the soothing sound of waves, created an ideal atmosphere to take in the beauty of the surroundings at a slower pace.
These hidden gems, less crowded and more serene, seemed to whisper an invitation to slow down, breathe in the coastal air, and enjoy the simple pleasures of a perfect day by the sea.
However, the practicality of reaching these views had its challenges. The 30-kilometer stretch offered many scenic stops, but with locals charging INR 100–200 for pay parking, navigating the narrow, muddy streets to find a spot often felt like more trouble than it was worth.
Yet, amidst the chaos, the serene beauty of Anjuna always managed to make the journey feel worthwhile.
