We recently had a dreamlike night hiking in the dark. I remember writing a post here to share pictures of the Ávila Cross lit up at night, and I also shared them on some of my social media accounts, where many people were quick to comment. However, although most of our friends wanted to climb the mountain at night, it was our good friend Leonardo who suggested doing it on March 3rd, since in addition to the full moon, there would also be an eclipse and the famous blood moon would be visible. We thought it was a great idea, and he was the only special guest on this night hike 😅

Hace poco tuvimos una noche de ensueño haciendo senderismo en la oscuridad. Recuerdo que escribí un post aquí para compartir las imágenes de la Cruz del Ávila encendida en la noche, y también las compartí en algunas de mis redes sociales, donde muchas personas no se hicieron esperar con sus comentarios; sin embargo, aunque la mayoría de nuestros conocidos querían subir la montaña en la noche, nuestro gran amigo Leonardo fue quien nos propuso la idea de hacerlo el 3 de Marzo, ya que además de la luna llena, también habría un eclipse y se dejaría ver la famosa luna de sangre. La idea nos pareció genial, y él fue el único invitado de gala a esta caminata nocturna 😅

In the end, it was the same three of us as always, the guys who showed me the hiking trails around Caracas. We started climbing in the last hour of sunlight, just before it disappeared behind the mountains, and our final destination was once again the Cruz del Ávila. That way, Leo could see it lit up and take some pictures, and a little higher up, we could wait peacefully for the moon to rise in the darkness while we enjoyed a late-night coffee. That sunset was fantastic, since none of us were in a hurry; we just wanted to savor the hike and the scenery at the end of the day.

Al final fuimos los mismos tres de siempre, los monos que me enseñaron las rutas de senderismo caraqueñas. Comenzamos a subir en la última hora de rayos del sol, justo antes de que desaparezca a través de las montañas y el destino final nuevamente era la Cruz del Ávila, así Leo podía verla encendida y tomarse algunas fotos y un poco más arriba podríamos esperar tranquilos que la luna se alzara en medio de la oscuridad, mientras nos tomábamos un café nocturno. Ese atardecer fue genial, ya que ninguno de los tres tenía apuro, solo queríamos disfrutar de la caminata y de los paisajes al final del día.

We've made this climb so many times that meeting up at this point on the trail no longer feels tiring. In fact, reaching the cross and walking a little further is like finding the perfect spot to sit and talk about life. The exercise is always good, but generally, between the three of us, dealing with each other's paces and my old habit of photographing everything I like, it usually takes us about an hour to get here. That day we had dinner up there while waiting for the moon to rise, and by mistake, none of us realized that the blood moon would only be visible that day at dawn 😬 so we settled for the full moon.

Hemos subido tantas veces que ya reunirnos en este punto del camino no representa cansancio para nosotros, de hecho, al llegar a la cruz y caminar un poco más allá es como si encontráramos el sitio perfecto para sentarnos y hablar de la vida. El ejercicio siempre es bueno igual, pero generalmente entre los tres, lidiando con la velocidad de cada uno y con mi vieja costumbre de fotografiar todo lo que me gusta, generalmente tardamos una hora hasta aquí. Ese día cenamos arriba mientras esperábamos que saliera la luna, y por error, ninguno de los tres se percató que la luna de sangre solo se vería ese día al amanecer 😬 así que nos conformamos con la luna llena.

Once again, my phone let me down. Not a single photo captured all the details of the full moon, even though I tried every tool I know. This is probably because the moon rose in an area with many cable car cables that got in the way of my camera. I had hoped it would rise higher, but it was a very cloudy night, making it impossible to get better shots. In fact, it was already late when we started heading down, and even though we were far away, we decided to enjoy the walk back and never stopped taking pictures. Some good shots actually came out on the way back...

Nuevamente mi teléfono me decepcionó mucho, no hubo ni una sola fotografía donde se vieran todos los detalles de la luna llena, aunque jugué con todas las herramientas que conozco, pero posiblemente se debe a que la luna salió en una zona donde hay muchos cables del teleférico que se interponen entre ella y mi cámara. Por otra parte, esperé que se levantara más, pero era una noche muy nublada y fue imposible hacer mejores tomas, de hecho ya era tarde cuando comenzamos a bajar, y aunque estábamos lejos, nos dispusimos a disfrutar del camino de regreso y nunca dejamos de tomar fotografías, de hecho, algunas buenas tomas salieron en el camino de regreso...

Although I didn't get the perfect shot of the full moon, it wasn't a wasted outing. That midweek day completely cleared my head and helped me get through the rest of the week, even though I still couldn't sing. Plus, I spent quality time with the guys and we saw beautiful panoramic views of Caracas at night. Aunque no obtuve la foto deseada respecto a la luna llena, no fue un paseo perdido. Ese día a mitad de semana me despejó completamente y me hizo tolerar lo que quedaba de semana, aún sin voz para poder cantar, además, pasé tiempo de calidad con los muchachos y vimos panorámicas hermosas de la ciudad de Caracas en la noche, y si me lees regularmente, ya sabrás lo mucho que amo apreciar la belleza de la capital venezolana.
