Jumping For Joy
Ecstatically happy, after five years I have ability to get out and go on my own. Yes thinking long and hard brought me to the decision, the plunge must happen now before you are too old to remember how.
Let me take you along for my outings where I got to walk and play, yes show you what I'm talking about after not having an automatic car and only stick shifts in the garden for the last 5 years which I don't drive!
Learned manual drive 45 years ago, yet only ever had an automatic to get to and fro. My new wheels, Snow White, you will see me coming!
First get the feel of vehicle in safe area, which we did, take photo before commencing with son patiently waiting to see how I cope, still got the magic!
Then off to the park to visit, followed by driving all the most winding roads he could find before returning home to park into my 'spot' which most battle to use, we do have a terrible driveway to reverse into, making it easier when coming out.
Mootiful morning all in green, rivers are running strong everything looks clean, till humans arrive to dump trash like no one would believe! Cattle were enjoying the outing being mid-morning with plenty grazing available.
Next morning relatively early all piled in, I drove everyone down to the beach, hubby riding passenger, son on back seat with Woody, a special blanket to cover car seat, he was a bit lost not having the bakkie to run crazy rings around but settled quite nicely.
Beach weather was a tad warm, fortunately a light breeze blew up to cool slightly, sea at low tide and looked great in the bright sunlight, in fact dazzling!
Dogs in the distance jumping for joy at the feeling of freedom not being on leash which is the law, always nice to see them free of the bondage from human laws. Made me reminisce how my other dogs loved to go it alone.
Long and the short is one has to own a vehicle in South Africa with no public transport to talk about. If anyone needs emergency help now I am able to assist.
Or I need emergency get away I can take a break away, yes I'm jumping for joy for the first time knowing I am mobile once again. Photography over the last week for fun and giggles, thanks for visiting!

Good to be able to enjoy driving once more, it has been awhile, previous vehicle was already 17 years old, my last automatic was sold 6 years ago having reached similar age, rust set in living at the coast.
We all need to spoil ourselves sometimes enjoy your new car @joanstewart 👍

Been saving for some time, then searching for exactly what I could afford, good ground clearance and sips fuel, vehicles are so expensive here it makes one want to cry!
First time in years I have made the park and the beach over the same weekend, needless to say weekly shopping 😁

I could read you were very happy and relieved to get out. It will make shopping much easier too.
I have no car of my own since December the first… it is a different experience after owning a car since I was 21. Not sure if I get a car one day again, my back was one of the reasons I couldn’t drive anymore. And it depends also where we end up after moving later this year I think too.

My younger sister has found herself in similar situation, company liquidated, took the vehicle which they had promised her. Living in Johannesburg now found she drives sons vehicle who lives in flatlet on premise, or orders an Uber which works out as a cost saver for her at the moment.
Where we live Uber is out of the question, excessively expensive, I shared the vehicle with my son which we have done for over ten years to bring costs down within the home, sold the wrong vehicle 5 years ago I should have hung onto my low rider automatic.
Corrected the mistake and this is the first and last new car of my lifetime, yes I am happy it will give me that little extra freedom.

Luckily she can find solutions for now.
It can be tough in more remote places. As I hear you found solutions too for the time being/ years I mean. It makes your new car extra special I think, as it does sound you need it for getting around.
And getting your freedom back.

paperwork??? tax it insure it get behind the wheel!!
Sold old vehicle (17 years old) have legal paperwork there, insurance is another steep hill you have to fight, price they want monthly...., did get behind the wheel ☺️. Taxes all all inclusive in price of purchase ours is around 45% added on to value, if you enter into debt, paying off you can add on way more!

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Enjoying the ground clearance, fact that this is so much lighter on fuel, not that I will be driving daily it will be for weekends mainly with son using during the week for work.
Stop at park was to stretch the legs, a quick break walking, discussing what we felt about the new wheels, for both of us it is a first new vehicle, so yes pretty chuffed!
We switched to a SUV a few years back as my wife was struggling getting into our car that was lower the SUV is so much easier to get in and out of
There is also a special feeling to a new car
Smell of new car definitely is a once off treat. Sitting higher makes the world of difference not only helping with getting in and out of vehicle, somehow feels better with clear view ahead, now to watch out for potholes!

The beach is such a wonderful place for the pups. A little time running of that pent up energy is good for man and beast.What a beautiful sight your beach is.
Thrilled with "chunky", comfortable and sounds solid unlike some vehicles of late.
I make the worst co-pilot in the world, run my mouth, push "air" brakes, give direction to hubby all the time.
Now it's time I do some driving, perhaps help lower my blood pressure, but hell there are idiots on our roads.... perhaps wishful thinking! 😂

I hate automatic cars, but it gets harder and harder to get a "normal" car in our company when I need one, but the colleagues know that I need 3 pedals, and sometimes they make fun with me by giving me keys for an automatic and I notice it only when I already sit in it 🤣 !LOLZ

Third pedal haha, replacing clutch plates is an expensive exercise. Safer for me in auto which I know how to manipulate to get the best out of, also with heavy traffic makes life easier.
Before I had a license 45 years ago (had to learn on manual), excellent salesman said automatic was the future, we bought Opel 1.4 automatic and she lasted 14 years. When I got my license went straight into auto. All cars that followed were second hand for myself and fortunately always ended up being auto.
Hubby and sons have always drive manual they can have it, Unless you fortunate enough to work in same area, same hours it is impossible to share a vehicle here.
Eldest son and I will share this vehicle, he uses it in his small business during the week, then I can enjoy over weekends.

Never had to replace the clutch plates in any of my cars - maybe I drive different or it's the heat you have down there 😉
All people here say if you drive it you will love it, but I have driven it and I didn't love it. Maybe if we don't have any "normal" cars anymore in our company I will have to drive more and will get used of it.
My son also uses my car to go to work and meet friends and ... and I get it sometimes when he doesn't need it 🤣 !LOLZ

Manual drive definitely you have more control, auto is easier in heavy traffic conditions and town driving.
Running/buying vehicles here a costly affair trying to minimize as best we can.
Knowing there is a car in the garden I am able to use makes me feel better should an emergency arise I will be able to drive it.

Often when both our cars are not at home I think what might be if I would have to get somewhere urgently. So I agree, it's a good feeling to have a vehicle at home, ready to go if needed.

Automatic is an easy step when you have the manual experience under the belt. You can hear the gears and change with a slight kick-down when needed to change in a hurry for additional speed, like sucking a lolly!
It's the drivers on the road today that is the worry 😂, in an emergency I don't think I will be too worried though...

I also think that in an emergency I would care a lot of the other drivers as long as I get to where I want.

Thanks @jlufer sadly we have no public transport here to rely on. This has taken a couple of years thinking through, pricing carefully, making decision on expensive liability does not come easy.

Hi @jaonstewart, owning a set of wheels is such a necessity these days so I am so glad you now have very own. Love your 'mootiful 'photo of so many shades and texture of green. It is nearly time to go for my walk on the beach, today will be a hit and miss with the persistent falls of heavy this week. Getting wet is exhilarating, hahaha.
We have encountered a lot more rain this year, yes everything is green at the moment in hottest month of year. Walking in rain is blissful, cannot melt, normally pure enjoyment, so get out and enjoy!

We are having a very wet summer too. Is it possible that being in the same hemisphere might have something to do with it. Today it is has not stopped raining heavily all day, the rain gauge is nearly full again. The Bureau of Meteorology sent a text on Wednesday telling us that a flood watch had been issued, advising us to not use the roads. This would have to be the back country roads that are prone to flooding as the motorway is fine to drive on. Rain is forecasted for the next week and a half at least.
The up side is the cooler air!😀
Upside is cooler air and keeping dust levels down, also the plants get a good wash down.
Certain areas here have incurred heaving flooding during the wet season, many places dams filled for the first time in many years, always feast or famine!

Evil necessity where we live with no public transport available, enables one to be able to get out and go without limitation which is was is needed sometimes.
