Wednesday Walk In Porto Heli, Azure Bay Of Greece

in Wednesday Walk2 months ago

The art of knowing how to shake off the dust from everyday life's miracles. The art of to be grateful for every sunrise. I have been learning this all my life. And I believe that those who do not learn those lessons are dragging a heavy burden like a millstone attached to their leg. The lucky ones who learn it, live a life full of wonder.

Let's get to know a new day every day - it can't wait to tell us something, to teach us something, to surprise us with something.

Some of you may think that I drive from one place to another and have money for all my adventures from somewhere. No, we have our jobs and we do work hard. And last night I worked on my ordinary job project till early morning. I slept only two hours tonight, but in the morning, after two cups of coffee, I am ready to go and walk to one more beautiful place here - Porto Heli. And my husband is doing the same, he is working even more than I do. Our jobs are just done remotely.

And so, we went to Porto Heli yesterday and stayed for the night there as we had a plan today, after the morning walk along the port, to rent a boat trip to one of the nearest islands. We now had an hour to wait for the boat. We sat in the tavern on the bay and I wrote a post about Porto Heli - a small coastal town located in the Argolis region. The real pearl of the city is the bay of the same name where we sit now.

This sunny city itself does not have many historical or architectural sights, but attracts many tourists with its beautiful beaches!

You will not believe how many yachts there are in such a small village! All you see is sails and fishing boats, sails and fishing boats... Where did all these sails come from? Tourists can do watersports there, and it's classical, like on any island.

The vast majority of shops, entertainment centers and hotels are located along the coastline of the town. We also saw many small ports and marinas, in one of which we rented a boat for our trip.

The waiter in the taverna told us that the best time to relax and see the sights of Porto Heli is August. Here it is even called cultural month. There are events for tourists, such as Fishing Week, the Festival of Culture and Art, a huge number of master's classes on playing musical instruments, music, dancing and many other interesting events. At the same time, if you prefer a quiet, relaxing holiday, it is better to choose early autumn or early summer to visit Porto Heli. It's my own opinion.

Everywhere there are excellent wild and organized beaches, shops, taverns, many hotels and private villas. The transport interchange is also good, so there will be no problems with moving around the town and outside of it. I think every tourist or just city guest will find suitable beaches and famous Greek attractions located within proximity.

The resort town itself has long been divided into areas with beaches of the same name - Agios Emilianos, Kounupi, Costa, Hinitsa, Ververonta, Korakia... There really is a lot to choose from - you can either stay in one of the above areas or have a great rest in the very center of the town.

The water is always clear, you can see the sea bottom on most beaches. We avoided swimming on the main beach right beneath Porto Heli town because it gets very crowded in summer.

We preferred to find our own small coves to enjoy swimming with our children. Just beware, some beaches are rocky and children might have their feet hurt. A bit away from the centre of town, we found a great beach suitable for us and our kids. It's well organized beach, not wild one. It has a gentle descent into the water ideal for our children. There are umbrellas, but you have to buy something to drink and an umbrella is included in the price. The name of this beach is Paralya Chrysi Acti.

The history of Porto Heli is not distinguished by a variety of historical events, and there are no interesting historical buildings here either. There are a few versions of the city's name. By one of them, the town got its name from the Greek word “eli”, which means “swamp”, and the prefix Porto, which was added to the name of the town during the period of Venetian rule.

According to the most prevailing opinion, the name Porto Heli is due to the gradual linguistic corruption of the name Fishermen. The name Fishermen was corrupted in Halies and then in Heli. To distinguish itself from the neighboring village of Heli, it also received the nickname Porto, because it had a port. According to another view, its name Heli is one of many place names found in the southern Argolid region and later given the prefix Porto.

The city has become quite cosmopolitan over the years and many people have summer houses there. The port is surrounded by beautiful cafeterias and some are right by the sea. The waves are reaching visitors' feet!

No sightseeing in Porto Heli; this is just a nice village with some greenery around.

Finally, some photos from the guest house Sea View Villa, where we spent the night. We didn't rent an expensive hotel because we only stayed for one night. Just a comfortable, clean room in a villa.
