Wednesday Walk: Walk on a city holiday

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

Hi everybody!

The city where I live celebrated its birthday in June. He is 96 years old. And today I want to tell about this day and what I saw at the celebration.

My morning began with cheerful songs of the Soviet era that sounded on the streets of the city. The theme of the holiday this year is the 100th anniversary of the USSR.

From the very morning I went for a walk around the city center and see what interesting things the organizers of the holiday had prepared for the townspeople.

I noticed that all such events are held in a standard way: a solemn part, a concert part with the participation of amateur groups and invited "stars", master classes, food and souvenir sales. This is exactly what happened to us this year. A stage was installed on Victory Square, on which children's groups performed. By the evening they promised to bring pop stars who shone on stage in the 90s.

There were a lot of Soviet symbols at the festival. Red banners, sickle-hammers, pioneers, caps, banners, posters.

All this gave me a feeling of slight nostalgia.

Traffic was blocked on the main street and there were tents where one could buy products of local entrepreneurs. There were many tents with pottery.

Outside the local library, we were reminded that June 11 is World Knitting in Public Day. Yes, there is such a day! By the way, knitters celebrate it, go out with their needlework to public places and knit.

I know how to knit, but I don’t go outside with needlework. I'm shy.

I really liked the street photography exhibition that tells about the city in Soviet times. Employees of the local museum were on duty next to archival photographs and told everyone very interesting about the history of the city.
Unfortunately, it started to rain and I didn't take a picture of this exhibition.

After walking in the central square, we went to the reenactors. There is also nothing unusual, everything, as always - a tent camp, demonstration fights, the opportunity to shoot from a bow, selling handmade items.

I like historical reconstruction very much and spent time in the camp of reenactors with great pleasure.

The only thing that slightly spoiled the mood at the holiday was poplar fluff. Look how much it was! He made it difficult to enjoy the walk.

The celebration lasted all day and ended with fireworks. But I walked a lot during the day and was tired, so I watched the fireworks from the balcony.

Thanks for your attention and support.
Have a good evening!

Beautiful place, and an exquisitely eloquent series of photos, with wonderful colours and a correct use of the flat light typical of white cloudy skies... Excellent work, a very enjoyable visual tour... Thanks for sharing.
