El pasado domingo 10 de septiembre de 2023, fue la clausura de las Fiestas Patronales de El Hatillo. Un hermoso pueblo venezolano, ubicado en el estado bolivariano de Miranda y que por su cercanía con Caracas, es considerado como parte de la capital de Venezuela, pues ocupa una región que los caraqueños sentimentalmente conocemos, como zona metropolitana de Caracas. Una denominación que oficialmente se mantuvo durante mucho tiempo y que posteriormente ha sido cambiada por otras designaciones, con más o menos la misma comnotación, esto debido a decisiones aprobadas al respecto y tomadas por los diversos gobiernos de turno, tanto regionales como nacionales.
Last Sunday, September 10, 2023, was the closing of the El Hatillo Patron Saint Festivities. A beautiful Venezuelan town, located in the Bolivarian state of Miranda and that due to its proximity to Caracas, is considered part of the capital of Venezuela, since it occupies a region that the sentimental Caraqueños know, as the metropolitan area of Caracas. A denomination that officially remained for a long time and that subsequently has been changed by other designations, with more or less the same connotation, this due to decisions approved in this regard and taken by the various governments in office, both regional and national.
El Hatillo es un pueblo que hasta ahora conserva en gran medida sus características como tal, e inclusive fue declarado Monumento Nacional y Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación, razón por lo cual hasta hace algunos años eran respetadas las restricciones que estos nombramientos exigían. Cosa que paulatinamente, desde un tiempo para acá, no ha sido cumplido, pues las autoridades de gobierno local han permitido una serie de cambios estructurales que han ido en perjuicio del mantenimiento arquitectónico y de los usos y costumbres de la zona, por lo cual la identidad colonial de este pueblo se ha visto seriamente afectada.
Sin embargo, en ese pueblo, aún queda mucha gente que desea y trabaja por mantener las tradiciones y que con gran esmero y entusiasmo se dedican a cumplir con ellas, como es la festividad del Día de las Damas Antañonas, que aunque es una fiesta que en este pueblo se celebra desde hace un poco más de una década. Se trata de una actividad que se ha logrado consolidar, como una tradición infaltable en la programación del día de cierre de las fiestas patronales en honor a Santa Rosalía de Palermo, patrona religiosa del municipio.
Así que para aportar un grano de arena, en defensa de tradiciones que, como esta, contribuyen a mantener y fortalecer la identidad cultural de un pueblo, riqueza intangible que permite consolidarnos y afianzarnos en nuestras raíces culturales. Hoy quise traer, al paseo de los miércoles, una muestra de lo que fue esta festividad del año 2023, en el pueblo de El Hatillo. Pues estuve allí junto a mi familia, disfrutando de un domingo especial que nos potenció y llenó de entusiasmo para prepararnos como "Dios manda", para el año que viene, cuando esperamos acudir todos trajeados con nuestra correspondiente indumentaria de la época. Este año, únicamente lo hicieron mi hija y mi nieta, quienes asistieron con sus respectivos trajes.
El Hatillo is a town that has so far largely preserved its characteristics as such, and was even declared a National Monument and cultural heritage of the Nation, which is why restrictions were respected for some years. Which gradually, from some time ago, has not been fulfilled, because the local government authorities have allowed a series of structural changes that have been to the detriment of the architectural maintenance and the customs and traditions of the area, so that the colonial identity of this town has been seriously affected.
However, in that town, there are still many people who want and work to maintain traditions and who with great effort and dedication are dedicated to fulfilling them, such as the feast of the Day of the Antañonas Ladies, which although it is a feast that in this town has been celebrated for a little over a decade. It is an activity that has managed to consolidate, as an essential tradition in the programming of the day of the closure of the festivities in honor of Santa Rosalía de Palermo, religious patroness of the municipality.
So, to contribute a grain of sand, in defense of traditions that, like this, contribute to maintaining and strengthening the cultural identity of a town, intangible wealth that allows us to consolidate and strengthen our cultural roots. Today I wanted to bring, to the Wednesday walk, a sample of what this festival was this year 2023, in the town of El Hatillo. Because I was there with my family, enjoying a special Sunday that empowered us and filled us with enthusiasm to prepare ourselves as "God wills", for next year, when we hope to attend all dressed in our corresponding period clothing. This year, only my daughter and granddaughter attended, dressed in their respective costumes.
De manera que fue muy bonito ver llegar a mi casa, a mi hija junto a mi nieta, emocionadas y contentas porque traían sus trajes y accesorios de damas antañonas. Ellas habían ido a hacer unas diligencias al pueblo, cuando sorpresivamente les preguntaron si querían vestirse de antañonas para participar en el evento, cuestión que inmediatamente aceptaron y pasaron al salón donde la señora Mercedes de Silva, junto a otras mujeres, coordinaba todo aquello. Las dos, me cuentan que se sintieron como en un Miss Venezuela, cuando con gran algarabía se probaron trajes, collares, pañuelos, abanicos, sombreros y zapatos. Hasta que después de ponerse múltiples atuendos y de recibir infinidad de consejos, escogieron las piezas con las que se sintieron más identificadas y cómodas. De manera que salieron de allí, inmensamente emocionadas a hacerles los retoques correspondientes para usarlos el gran día.
Por consiguiente, les cuento que aunque en otras oportunidades he acudido a este evento, tengo la impresión de que esta vez, lo he hecho con mayor entusiasmo y sensibilidad. Pienso que en esto, de alguna manera contribuyó, el hecho de haber visto, durante los días previos, a mi hija y a mi nieta preparándose para su participación. Ambas, estuvieron cosiendo y remendando todo lo que se iban a poner, pues se trataba de atuendos que les fueron concedidos en calidad de préstamo, por Mercedes de Silva, una aguerrida e incansable mujer, propulsora directora y coordinadora principal de la celebración de esta festividad en El Hatillo.
Así que este domingo, a las once de la mañana, tal y como, estaba pautado, fuimos la familia en pleno a la plaza Bolívar de El Hatillo. De manera que a esa hora, puntualmente, estuvimos todos allí e iniciamos la aventura, cuando apenas daba comienzo.
Al llegar, al primero que nos conseguimos en la plaza fue al General Juan Vicente Gómez, personaje que identifica la época y quien fue el encargado de darnos la bienvenida.
It was very nice to see my daughter and granddaughter arrive at my house, excited and happy because they brought their women's costumes and accessories from the colonial era. They had gone to run some errands in town when suddenly they were asked if they wanted to dress up as ladies of that time, which they immediately accepted and went to the living room where Mrs. Mercedes de Silva was, along with other women, coordinating everything. The two tell me that they felt like a Miss Venezuela, when multiple outfits were tried on and received endless advice, they chose the pieces with which they felt most identified and comfortable. So they walked out of there, immensely excited to make the corresponding adjustments to use them on the big day.
Consequently, I tell you that although I have attended this event on other occasions, I have the impression that this time I have done so with more enthusiasm and sensitivity. I think that in this, in some way, the fact of having seen, during the days before, my daughter and granddaughter preparing for their participation contributed. Both of them were sewing and mending everything they were going to wear, because they were outfits that were lent to them by Mercedes de Silva, a tough and tireless woman, the driving force behind and main coordinator of the celebration of this festival in El Hatillo.
So this Sunday, at eleven in the morning, as planned, the whole family was in Plaza Bolívar in El Hatillo and we began the adventure from the exact moment it started.
When we arrived at the first person we found in the square it was General Juan Vicente Gómez, a character who identifies the era and who was the one who welcomed us.
Seguidamente, vimos a muchos amigos y conocidos que habían ido a disfrutar del evento, nos tomamos fotografías con las damas antañonas. Hasta que llegó el momento de la misa especial, que se realizaría a las 12:30 pm. Para la cual, las damas se congregaron en las afueras de la iglesia para posteriormente ingresar de forma organizada a la misma, donde tomarían los primeros asientos, es decir, los más cercanos al altar.
Next, we saw many friends and acquaintances who had gone to enjoy the event, we took pictures with the old ladies. Until the time of the special mass, which would be held at 12:30 pm. For which, the ladies gathered outside the church and then entered in an organized way to the church, where they would take the first seats, that is, the ones closest to the altar.
Hicimos acto de presencia en la misa, aunque en esta oportunidad lo hice en calidad de fotógrafa, así que durante todo el tiempo estuve en movimiento para captar distintos ángulos y momentos.
Una vez culminada la misa, se efectuó el desfile de las damas junto al público presente, por las principales calles de El Hatillo, al son de la música cañonera tocada por la banda local.
We were present at the mass, although this time I did it as a photographer, so during the whole time I was moving to capture different angles and moments.
Once the mass was over, the parade of the ladies took place through the main streets of El Hatillo, to the sound of cañonera music played by the local band.
Después hubo baile en la plaza, al ritmo cañonero y seguidamente se montó en la tarima Annaé Torrealba, nieta de Juan Vicente Torrealba con un repertorio de música llanera. Para finalizar el evento con la premiación de los mejores trajes de Dama Antañona de este año 2023, quedando como ganadoras las señoras del traje amarillo y la del traje de color melón, que vale la pena resaltar que este traje melón, fue elaborado por la misma señora que lo llevaba puesto,esto como parte de un curso de corte y costura dictado por la alcadía de El Hatillo.
After there was a dance in the square, to the sound of a cañonera music and then Annaé Torrealba, granddaughter of Juan Vicente Torrealba got on the stage with a repertoire of llanera music. To finish the event with the award of the best Dama Antañona costumes of this year 2023, the ladies of the yellow costume and the melon-colored costume being the winners, it is worth highlighting that this melon costume was made by herself, as part of a course in cutting and sewing given by the mayor of El Hatillo.

🙂 Oh, pero qué interesante evento. Tremenda fiesta 😉 y veo que las fotos reflejan la gran alegría y el entusiasmo de todos los participantes. Muy bien que haya podido tomarlas desde diferentes ángulos.
Por otra parte, ¡qué buena obra la de esa señora, Mercedes Hernández de Silva, por mantener vivo el legado cultural de El Hatillo, a través de este festejo! Estuve viendo todo lo que ha hecho ella por ese municipio, lo cual es maravilloso. Cuando encuentro personas preocupadas por estas cosas, por las raíces, por conservar legados, siento alegría.
Y supongo que fue de lujo la actuación de los músicos con ese repertorio de música llanera. 🙂
La señora que hizo su propio vestido, ¡qué bien! Así debe haberlo disfrutado, desde su confección como parte de las enseñanzas de un curso y este merecido premio después. Cosas que alimentan el espíritu.
