I know that asparagus are cultivated and sold in various farmers’ markets – especially in my town, Athens, they are very popular these days. But, the flavor is not at all the same as the ones you can find on the mountains.

Harvesting asparagus is not an easy process because they grow amongst thorny bushes. Also, when you cut them, you should pay attention to harvest the fresh ones, not the woody ones. The latter are not edible.

Once you take them home, place them in a wet napkin and in the fridge. They can stay in the fridge for a week, there is no problem. Once you are ready to cook them, take them out, cut the wooden edges and clean them with a lot of water.

My grandmother used to say that in the old days, mothers used to give asparagus water to daughter-brides before getting married as a means of catharsis.

Asparagus is a highly nutritious vegetable. It has a lot of vitamins A, B, C, E, K, iron, calcium, proteins. It is a natural diuretic and helps in diets.

In my home we usually eat them like a salad with lemon and olive oil. Place them in boiling water for 5-10’ and they are ready to eat. The water can be consumed separately in a glass with lemon as it is easy and tasteful to drink.

People use asparangus in various recipes, like omelets, utilize them in sauces for spaghetti and so on. Whichever recipe you chose, asparagus will not let you down!

Thank you are welcome.

It seems that it is not an easy thing to harvest ascarabus plants, it must be filled with care and also found in the mountains

Indeed it is difficult. my clothes and hands were ruined! Thank you for stopping by!

I have never been a fan of asparagus myself but cool to see them growing int he wild up in the mountains

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Thank you for organising this community! It is very interesting to see various places and habits!

Oh, wow, you have found so many asparagus. You are a pro!!

I also like to pick them, but I was never able to find so many!

Yes sometimes you are lucky to be there on time nefore everyone else!

Exactly.

On one of the walks, when we were picking asparagus, there was a couple that went before us, and wow, they found so many. Logically, we had just a few after they picked almost everything hahaha

Great walk from your asparagus harvesting, I was out the other day to search some. But couldn’t find. Probably not in my area in Spain.
Have a great day further 👋🏻☀️

You have to find the specific place where they grow..it is not always easy..take care!

Yes… haven’t found any here. The areas I know are now to far away after our move.
Thank you @tikotiko 👋🏻😁
Take care!

I understand that this asparagus grows spontaneously in nature. I thought it was grown on farms. Many Romanians work on farms in the UK or Germany picking asparagus.
Please forgive me for such a long silence! I have seen and read your posts but all sorts of problems, from health issues to many chores around the house have made me messy with my use of time.
I'm glad you've started posting something other than recipes and are starting to strengthen your presence here. It reminds me of your travel posts, so beautiful. Even if you don't have more recent trips, you can still tell about older ones, using photos but of course in a different way than you did in the past.
I often post about the same places I visited, I always find new things I haven't written about before, even if some photos repeat themselves.
I have seen sometimes not to "recycle posts", I don't know exactly what it refers to but a story can be told in many ways, even if you report about the same street or city, restaurant, or exhibition. I think so and I haven't had any problems so far.

Returning to the past position is hard, after such a long absence, but it is possible. You also have to interact with others, which is time-consuming, unfortunately. I see that you are succeeding and I am very happy!

Dear @bluemoon I thank you so much for your support and kind words! It has been a very difficult past few years for me due to health maters. And even recently a had a hiccup which alerted me enormously (concerning my cancer) and was very worried. Finally all ok - thank God!

I often think pessimistically - that I don't have much fantasy or I am not good with words in order to elaborate on a story.. But I am trying to elaborate as much possible and also to post as often as I can, even though these days I work more than 12 hours per day. Even so, I am glad keeping up with the community as much as I can, because it is a hobby that offers me pleasure..

I find that you have a great talent at writing stories - they are always very interesting to read. And I love visiting places I have never seen, either in Greece or in Romania... I find myself travelling mentally! I again thank you immensely for your help and guidance!
