Athens... by the sea.

in Wednesday Walklast year

Change of scenery as we are visiting Athens for a few days, combining work, friends and family. No mountains this time, this is a walk by the coastline :)

IMG_1267.jpg

And this is the look of a confused (countryside raised) dog that can't understand why it takes so long for all these cars to pass and why we have to wait. Truth is that these traffic lights last really long. We are in Palaio Faliro, a southern neighbor of Athens and we are ready to cross the busy coastal avenue that will take us to the beach.

I am a fan of the city center and whenever I have to stay in another neighborhood than the ones we used to live, I find it difficult to adjust. The great advantage of this place though, that is not very far from the city center tbh, is how close to the sea it is. In just a couple of minutes, and some intense cat looks, you are next to the beach and you can completely forget the big city, especially during a working day.

Cloudy weather, it is raining while I am writing this post but we were lucky enough to enjoy our walk dry and happy.

This is not the typical photo you expect to see from Athens in late January, but yes, like this lady in the photo below, many people are swimming.

IMG_1308.jpg

IMG_1273.jpg

Others are selling fishes and octopuses they just caught.

Or filming. And this lady is feeding the pigeons every single morning for several years now.

Most people are walking.

IMG_1291.jpg

@fotostef was explaining to me what "decisive moment" in photography is and moments later I had this super cute cat, a true star, walking with style wile a man was swimming at the background :) I love synchronicity!

IMG_1287.jpg

Another star, a bit of a bully though when seagulls approached :/

IMG_1292.jpg

A bit more walking and we are heading to a yacht marina, Floisvos Marina.

IMG_1288.jpg

A place with... yachts and cafes. Too cloudy for people to sit out at the tables, all the other days plenty of people like to take their morning coffee here. The temperature fell under 15°C and this means the beginning of the winter for us. It was about time...

IMG_1295.jpg

IMG_1297.jpg

You can see a neighborhood of Piraeus at the background.

IMG_1299.jpg

Walking back through the park and enjoying the moody wintery colors.

IMG_1302.jpg

And the colorful outfits to uplift the mood :)

IMG_1303.jpg

Walking with the dog doesn't give me much time and space for all the photos I want to take, especially cat photos. They are everywhere! Cats rule this city and every neighborhood.

IMG_1306.jpg

Last photos of the beach and the seagulls, while on the other side the city is always busy!

This is my #wednesdaywalk contribution for the wonderful challenge by @tattoodjay, although a few hours late :)

Happy walks everyone!

All the pictures and the words are mine.
If you would like to know more about me this is my introduction post.

Hehe, your dog indeed looks confused in that first photo. Yes, maybe the cars....or because of the cats? :D
You have seen so many of them, the first one, behind the fence is also a bit confused. So cute one 😍

I think we were all a bit confused, haha!
So many cars, people, dogs, cats, birds, smells!!! First days in Athens after a long time at the olive grove you see :))
Cats here are so cute, all of them!

Oh, I can imagine that confusion then.
If you are used to one surrounding for some time, especially just nature and tranquillity, getting into a busy city feels like a shock!

Plus changing houses and places (and sleep habits :) every few days 🤓
I guess we are doing well though under the circumstances, haha! xxxx

Beautiful photographs, looking at them and imagining the sound of the Sea makes you feel an enormous tranquility, thank you for sharing

Thank you @marlynmont! Yes, beach tranquility on one side and city chaos on the other :)

Even with the beginning of winter still a beautiful area
I had never thought how strange it must feel for a country dog to be in a built up area
I know how I felt being a country boy at heart the first time i visited a big city LOL

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks

Haha, I think it is similar :) And believe me that's how we feel as well, and we've spent the biggest part of our life in this city! Although I understand how traffic lights work :))

Fotini mou lovely photographs as always!
Do you use a camera or a mobile phone?
!LUV

Thank you Katerina!
I use Stefanos' spare camera, lucky me :) It's a Canon EOS 850D.
Thanks for the luv :)

Haha that confused look is so cute 😍 that place looks beautiful, I value a lot the closeness to the beach and the city at the same time in any neighborhood, I think it's the kind of places I like the most. Also, those cats add more beauty 🤭 the bully one has a very fierce look on its eyes 😯 here in Basque Country many people swim at the beach in winter too, I'm always impressed by them 🥶 all your photos are amazing!

Oh, Basque Country! I just read you are from Bilbao, I loved it when I spent some time there almost two decades ago (I hadn't realised it's been so long...)
I would like to swim all year round, my father used to, now he takes a couple of months break, which I find normal, haha! But Bilbao is way colder than Athens, so it needs a lot of courage!
Thank you for your beautiful feedback! And yes, the cats and all the animals add more beauty for sure!

WOah! Great pics! I especially enjoyed the ones with the cats :)

Cats rule, that's for sure :)
Thank you @tokenizedsociety!

This has been a refreshing and lovely walk through your beautiful photos. Your dog seems to be saying, "aren't we going already?" hehe! It's nice to see people doing what they do, having fun and living in their moments. And I'd say the same with the cats and the feathered friends too😍

Glad you found it refreshing, it was indeed a lovely break. Living in a small village for a long time now, first days in the capital are always a bit overwhelming :)

Your dog seems to be saying, "aren't we going already?" hehe!

Exactly! So many smells and we are not moving, doesn't make sense for him :))

Thank you for reading dear @ifarmgirl-leo!

Beautiful post, looks like a nice quiet place to take your dog for a walk outside the busy city! However, your dog is really very beautiful, he has very sweet eyes :).
I wish you a wonderful day ;).

Thank you so much! It is a very nice and quiet place in working days (in weekends all the Athenians that need a break at the sea come over and it is even hard to walk). Very lucky to have this place close by during our stay in Athens, for us and for the doggy, who says thanks for the compliment :)
You too, have a wonderful day dear @stea90!

Yes, your dog is very beautiful :). Eh I guess a place like this at the weekend is a strong call that who want to get away from the city for a bit. I've never been to Athens but it must be pretty big and chaotic like all capital cities. I wish you a wonderful evening ;).

Chaotic is a very good description, haha! Chaotic but charming is what I usually say :) xxxx

love your photography here! especially the pics of the pupper :D

This place is so good and all the photos you have shared are amazing. Nature is so beautiful and we can get the best time with it if we like.

Thank you so much @alokkumar121! I absolutely agree with you. Nature is our healer :)

Hi @traisto
Love the photos of pets and birds you shared and I am sure that you had a great time in this place. Nature has its own beauty that does not require a makeover.

Oh yes, I wish we hadn't messed up so much.

So great to see this part of Athens through your lens!

Thanks so much Sara! It's interesting for me as well to explore this part of the city :)

The great city of Athens. Surely, this is one lovely city I'd love to visit, whether by the sea 😁 or around the lovely city, admiring the beautiful architecture. 🥰

Lovely photos you've shared with us for your Wednesday walk, I'm sure it was a refreshing one.

Thank you @ksam! It is an interesting city and I hope you can visit sometime :)

I believe, I will do that someday

I wish you to travel anywhere you dream @ksam :)

Very interesting set of photos. You sure have a keen eye and the sense to know when to click.
With a pet dog with you and so many cats around it must have been quite a challenge to manage the camera and the dog simultaneously.
Which camera did you use for the pics ?
You are lucky to have got a good day for taking the pics.
Enjoyed your post a lot as I am myself a big fan of travelling and exploring the places I visit on foot.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Nice walk . And the swimmer are amazing

Brave for sure :) Thank you for stopping by!

Beautiful...seeing Athen from your post. I used to read about Athens in philosophy, about the earliest philosophers who were from Athens. Indeed, I've also reach it through your post💃💃💃
@traisto ,They look pretty awesome and gladdening. Its good you shared some fragment for us here. I really love it
#weldon💪💪😭

Thank you so much for your warm feedback @wizj!
So nice that you have studied Greek philosophy, things are totally different now, but the history of that time is still a bit present in the historic center and archaeological sites, I think you would like it :)
