Wednesday Walk. Broken brick path

Hi friends! Yesterday I was walking along a road made of broken bricks. That may sound a bit dramatic, but I really liked the analogy — like the famous “yellow brick road” that Dorothy from Kansas followed on her way through the magical Land of Oz. Except my road wasn’t magical at all — it was purely practical: someone had dumped a torn-down brick wall — actual construction debris — right onto a dirt road that usually turns into a swamp every spring. Over time, the bricks got pressed into the ground by passing cars, and they’ll probably settle even more with time. That way, the road will become more or less passable during the off-season, when the surrounding area turns into a muddy mess.	Привіт, друзі! Учора я йшов дорогою з розбитої цегли. Насправді, це звучить доволі гучно, але мені дуже сподобалась ця аналогія — ніби та сама «дорога з жовтої цегли», якою йшла Дороті з Канзасу, коли потрапила у чарівну країну Оз. Тільки моя дорога була не чарівною, а суто практичною: хтось висипав сюди розібрану стіну з цегли — справжній будівельний брухт — просто на ґрунтову дорогу, яка навесні завжди потопає в болоті. Згодом під вагою автомобілів цегла втрамбувалася, і, напевно, ще більше втрамбується з часом. Так ця дорога стане більш-менш проїзною у міжсезоння, коли навколишнє бездоріжжя перетворюється на болото.

Насправді, це звучить доволі гучно, але мені дуже сподобалась ця аналогія — ніби та сама «дорога з жовтої цегли», якою йшла Дороті з Канзасу, коли потрапила у чарівну країну Оз. It was just a short stretch of the road, and then our family continued along the paved highway, heading to the local clinic — more precisely, the family medicine outpatient center. It’s not too far, and since we don’t have a car, we decided to walk, even with a stroller: our son Maksym was riding in it, and my wife and I took turns pushing. The younger kids, Daryna and Markiyan, walked alongside us. Our whole family is currently sick, so we were going for a check-up with our family doctor. As it turned out, all three children and I were prescribed antibiotics. My nephew, who was walking with us too, didn’t get any medication as he’s already recovering. My wife didn’t feel particularly ill, so she didn’t get examined — though it seems she might need treatment as well. That’s how our little “walk” to the clinic went. And at home, we’re continuing the treatment — for what feels like the hundredth time this spring. This season has brought an endless stream of colds, viruses, and bacterial infections — we barely manage to recover before something new catches up with us. I really hope that with the arrival of summer, we’ll finally get a bit of a break.	Це був лише короткий відрізок шляху, а далі ми з родиною йшли вже вздовж асфальтованого шосе — прямували до місцевої поліклініки. Якщо точніше, то до амбулаторії сімейної медицини. Вона розташована не надто далеко, а оскільки ми не маємо автомобіля, вирішили пройтися пішки. Іще й з дитячим візочком: наш Максим їхав у ньому, а ми з дружиною везли його по черзі. Молодші діти — Даринка й Маркіян — ішли пішки. Уся наша родина нині хвора, тож ми йшли на огляд до сімейного лікаря. Як виявилося, усім трьом дітям і мені призначили антибіотики. Моєму племіннику, який теж ішов з нами, нічого не призначили бо він вже йде на одужання. Дружина не почувалась надто хворою, тому не проходила обстеження — але, схоже, їй також знадобиться лікування. Отака в нас вийшла прогулянка — дорогою до поліклініки. А вдома ми продовжуємо лікування — вже вкотре цієї весни. Цього сезону надто багато застуд, вірусів і бактерій — ледве встигаємо оговтуватися, як знову щось чіпляється до нас. Сподіваюся, з приходом літа нарешті отримаємо хоч трохи перепочинку.

yes not quite the yellow brick road, but fuctional and hopefully will do what they hope and make the rod more passable in bad weather
