Not far from where I live on Prince Edward Island, Canada is the Orwell Corner Historic Village.

The early Orwell settlement was founded in the early 19th century by Scots from the Isle Of Skye and Irish from Monaghan co. Ireland.

Gaelic would have been the language spoken by the first settlers.

I checked my archives to see what I had photographed of the historic location.

On entering the gravel road off the Trans Canada Highway the wooden shingled barns are still standing from the original village.

Although I didn’t see the caretaker of the property, a pony was peacefully grazing in the pasture.

Going further on the tree-lined gravel road is the Sir Andrew Macphail (1864-1938) Homestead and its 140-acre property in Orwell preserved as a museum.

Early spring flowers and the leaves on the trees were making an attractive appearance.

I will have to make another visit to check out this historic village as at one time there was a church, blacksmith shop, school and general store.

Check Here for more info on the contest.

I love it when they leave the houses as they were built.
This seems to be a lovely little village that can tell a lot about history on PEI and I am looking forward to see more of it in another post.

Lovely made post, Jo, I hope you're having a great Thor's Day 😊🌞

It is well preserved and really takes one back in time. I will have to make a trip there this summer. They also have special activities going on at certain times. Visitors can learn, candle making, how to make their own bread and butter, the song and dance of Scottish settlers, or forge their own keepsake with a trained blacksmith.

Thanks dear Hannes for reblog, boost and everything. Much appreciated.

Have a happy Frigg’s Day! 🤗 🌞

Oh yes, I can imagine it is just like here they often have such events at castles or in older villages where they show how life was hundreds of years ago.

As always, you are very welcome, dear Jo, wishing you a wonderful Frigg's Day and weekend 🤗🌞

!PIZZA and !BEER served with !LUV - sounds like a lovely dinner :)

Beautiful country around there. I visited PEI and Nova Scotia when I was 12 and I remember how impressed I was with all the little villages and historic spots. One day I'll make it back up there. 🤞

Thanks for stopping by @driptorchpress. I hope you make it back in the future. 😊

Pony in the field a gorgeous capture, wooden barns quaint in every way. Tree lined road reminds of of pleasant times ambling down farm lanes, relaxing a joy to see.

It is a lovely peaceful place to visit Joan @joanstewart. Always nice to go back in time and feel the vibes of the lives of the former occupants. 😊

We often romanticize how lovely yesteryear may have been in simplicity, forgetting the hard manual labour placed into farming, tilling land never worked on previously, yes we see a dream never reality.

Terrific post and photos Jo!! This reminds me of Jerusalem Village here where I live. I love to see and hear about historical places. Lucky that some are still standing and being preserved. 💕

I’m happy you enjoyed the post and the historical places, Dee. 💕 I enjoy checking them out too. 😊

Have a wonderful Friday and coming weekend, my friend. 🌞
