[Timelapse] Drawing Shinobu Kochou | Demon Slayer Fan Art

in OnChainArt4 years ago (edited)

I finished watching and reading the anime and manga of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba (鬼滅の刃). As soon as I finished the series (I picked up the series in a very timely fashion -- the manga was just about ending that time), I drew a fan art.

I was supposed to post that fan art here, but things happened and... well, I ended up posting it in @coarebabes a few weeks too late. If you're interested, you can check it out here.

So after posting it, I realized that maaan, how I drew changed. I was finishing a portrait of my big sister last night when I decided to set it aside for later and start a new Demon Slayer fan art.

月が綺麗ですね

Many anime fans know the other "meaning" of the text 「月が綺麗ですね」. In English, "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?" Saying this turns out to allude to confessing your love.

If I remember right, there was an episode in the Demon Slayer anime when Shinobu Kochou (the girl in the drawing) said this to a fellow demon slayer (Giyuu Tomioka)... and then I instantly shipped them together. There weren't any signs, though, that they were canon, but I really liked that she said this.

In the end, she became one of my favorites. I always wanted to draw her with Giyuu -- my friends @debilog and @ririgi knew how in love I am with them -- but this ws supposed to be really quick so...

About the fan art

I made her look a little more "real-ish" in this one. I think I'd been drawing enough portraits that I kind of just adapted to kind-of-sort-of realistic drawings. For one, her eyes were normally really big like any other anime.

I liked how the sketch turned out. Initially, I drew the ends of her yukata in a way that it sprawls behind her, but it just didn't feel right. For the colors, I generally worked on a purple hue.

Now, the part I disliked the most -- the background. Maaaan, can't backgrounds be easier for once? I ended up adapting the same background many other Shinobu fan arts do (theirs look more natural, though!).

Timelapse

I drew the sketch sometime between 10 PM to 11 PM, I think? Then I woke up really early -- like 4:00 AM ish -- at which point I continued drawing (what). In the end, there were many times I kept forgetting I was supposed to record, or times I thought I was recording but really, it wasn't. So as per usual, forgive the sudden jumps.
